KYLE — A man who appeared at the city's administration building this

morning holding the body of his infant brother later wrestled a gun away from a

police officer and shot himself in the head, police said.

Police have not released the name of the 24-year-old man, who was transported to

Brackenridge Hospital.

The man arrived at the administration building, across the street from City

Hall, at 7:30 a.m. holding his 6-month-old brother and screaming that the infant

was not breathing, said Bridges, a sergeant with the Hays County Sheriff's

office. Emergency medical workers arrived and determined the baby was dead,

Bridges said, but authorities have not determined the cause of death.

About an hour later, the man was brought to the Police Department, Bridges

said. As he was getting out of a patrol car, the man began fighting with an

officer, took the officer's gun and shot himself, Bridges said. The officer

suffered minor scrapes and bruises, he said.
