Guest guest
HI tte- I have seen most people reply that it doesn't harm the baby. I have the same concerns. I have my first u/s on Thursday and my doc says I will have one every week. My RE says that is a little over-kill, but I don't want to tell my doc what to do. Has anyone else had an u/s every week? I am only 5-6 weeks (will know more on Thurs). I have had one somewhat failed resection after one m/c and was scheduled to have my very broad septum removed via Metroplasty on Feb 16th. Apparently our decision was overturned- I found out I was pregnant last week. I am scared to death! Also, my RE says I should go to a high risk in addition to my regular OB. My regular OB says he does everything the high risk does except amnios. What additional things will a high risk do except measure my cervix? I will have my cervix stitched at 13 weeks if I make it that far. This is my new delimma- do I insist that I see the high risk doc also? I will do anything to increase my chances of keeping this baby, despite what the statistics say. Reading all of the posts on this site are so much more encouraging than listening to the grim stats a doc will give. Any advice will be so greatly appreciated as it has been to all of the wonderful women I have talked to already! Congrats to you tte Basketcase- please keep me updated on your progress! nah SU- resected 1 m/c July 2003 > Hi > > I am wondering if ultrasounds can damage the baby in any way? I am 13.5 weeks preg and have already had 6 scans with maybe my 7th today due to bleeding episodes over the weekend. I know that scanning is the only way to see if the baby is ok but I worry also that it may be harming baby. I know a lot of you out there have had numerous scans also so was hoping someone could put my mind at rest on this new worry of mine! > > Thanks > > Basketcase oops sorry tte > 37 > BU Bicollis > 13.5 w preg > 1 mc 10.2001 > > This message and any attachment is confidential and may be privileged or otherwise protected from disclosure. Guest guest
I have had weekly u/s and do not believe they pose any risk. I may be a little partial my sister performs u/s and would give me one everyday if I let her! I see an OB and a high risk OB. The OB does very little just weight, blood pressure, and urine. The high risk OB I see does all of the u/s. The big asset I see with the high risk OB is they are the ones who will perform my delivery. I feel they are better qualified since they see more complex cases. I have a UU, shorten cervix, and am carrying twins. Even most high risk OBs have not seen multiples in a UU. Best of luck! Guest guest
Hi nah Thanks so much for your response. That is wonderful that you are pregnant, congratulations! I quite understand your fears. At least you have a good doctor who is looking after you well! My doctor only does the monthly blood and urine etc. The reason I have had all these scans is because of the bleeding I have been experiencing on and off since I was 6.5 weeks. I asked my doctor if he has to monitor my cervix and he said it is not worth it! He said it could look fine one day then be dilating the next and unless he checked me every day there is no point in doing it, which I am not overly happy about but I have no choice in the matter. We don't have 'high risk' ob's here in Australia as far as I know. I hope someone else out there can be of more assistance to you with your queries. For what it's worth they dont' do cerclages over here either unless they catch the cervix shortening which I don't know how they would do if they are not monitoring....all very stressful!!! I have been told to 'just relax' but that is easier said than done. I wish you all the very best; I will keep you updated on my progress if you like; ditto for you! tte 37 bu bicollis 14 weeks preg 1 mc 10.2001 Re: too many scans? Guest guest
Hi nah and tte, Congratulations to you both again. tte, I've been following your posts closely, as I've been having some similar experiences (bleeding, many ultrasounds, etc.) nah, re: the high risk OB or perinatologist - my RE and GP told me even before I was pregnant that I would automatically be followed by a peri - it seem to be a given for women with MAs, at least here in my part of Canada! That said, high risk obs (again, here anyway) won't see women until they are at least 12 weeks. This annoyed me, but I understand as there isn't much that can be done if something goes very wrong in the first 12 or 14 weeks. I have read from previous posts that the " experienced " and wise women on this board recommend that women have a peri follow MA pregnancies, so I would seriously consider politely telling your OB that you want to see a peri once you are in your second trimester at least. Like tte mentioned, none of my doctors, REs and Peris, rec'd a cervical cerclage UNLESS you have had cervical incompetence before in a previous pregnancy or they see a shortening or thinning of your cervix. There are some risks associated with the cerclage - there are women on this board who know alot more about this than I. I do get my cervix checked with every u/s, which, given this bleeding and spotting, has been at least every two weeks since 12 weeks, so ... . I had another u/s today, so far so good ... Regarding too many u/s - I had number 6 today! I'm worried too, but was told not to worry - like that is possible. Good luck to both of you and take care. a 35 SU 16 weeks
