AS I recall, the technology for non-invasive meters involved laser or infrared

technology of some kind. But supposedly, the readings weren't consistent enough

to satisfy the FDA people. I agree, it seems like it should be simple enough.

But then, I'm an author, not an engineer!

using the test salution?

So far in 2 weeks I haven't tested my meter with the test solution. mainly

the reason for this is the 2 bottles I got are both 2 years out dated. now

where do I get a new bottle? plus how much should I test my meter with the

solution? best I recall with out looking, that each bottle of strips has a

range as where the test should be if it is correct? am I correct or wrong

about this? I'm wondering because this morning my first test said my sugar

was 98. ok this I know was wrong. so I try again. this time it was 138. this

could be right, but tried again and the third time was 121. I'm going with

the 138 because this is closer to where it runs first thing of a morning.

makes me wonder if all the other days are coming out like this morning? 2

weeks ago I did take it at home before going to see the specialist and his

140 test was very close to my reading before of 137. I know these meters

will never always be right and there is a ten% or higher error in our

readings either way. well anyway I suppose I just need to get a new bottle

of test solution at my drug store is where I will look first. I believe the

instruction said to test once a week, but it has been a few years since I

looked at that disk.

also what u might try is setting the depth level for pokibng your finger.

That will probably work. It may hurt more but it usually works.

Hi Rick, unfortunately, Accu-Chek doesn't make the Multickix Lancet Drums in

other gauge sizes. I used to use the drums too. But, I changed to their Softclix

Lancets.

I wonder if folks are having more success with specific kinds of lancets or

lancing devices?

I’m using an Acucheck multiclick lancing device and the lancet cartridges

that go with it. I’m wondering if I would have more success using a

different gauge needle? It might hurt a little more but it would beat

having to poke myself 2 or 3 times to get a valid reading.

Hi Rick, try rubbing your finger with a, clean, dry Q-tip before you test. This

trick works for me.

Dave,

This is definitely one issue I have sometimes with the Prodigy meter. I

constantly have trouble getting a good blood sample, especially in the

morning. I’ve tried all the tricks, milking the finger, running hot water

over my hands and so on. If you have any tips you can share regarding

getting a good blood sample, I’m all ears. I may have to think about the

Solo V2, but unfortunately, it’s strips are not fully covered by my plan and

the meter isn’t covered at all although it seems to be pretty inexpensive.

I like the Prodigy a lot but hate the fact that I do get readings that I

know for sure are way off. I sometimes get readings as low as in the 40s

and I know those are dead wrong. I can’t imagine having a reading that low

and not feeling it.

This is the main reason I switched to the Solo V2 meter. It provides a

warning when there is insufficient blood. While the Prodigy Voice gives you

a reading most of the time, even if there isn't enough blood. Sometimes it

will give an error as I recall, but there are times you really don't know.

Mark, and all, I've been testing so long I often have a sense of where my bg

will be. If the meter were to give me a reading I felt was in error, there

is a good chance my intuition is correct.

Mark, you're on the right track by sensing where you should be. The best way

to safeguard against insufficient blood is to make sure you know how to get

a good sample of blood. Sometimes, someone sighted can be a good way to tell

you how good you prick your finger, and how well you bleed.

The fact that nothing else has been heard on such a non-invasive meter

actually doesn’t surprise me. Just think about how it would affect the

bottom line of all of these companies that make a fortune on all of the

stuff we use to get a BG reading. Meters, strips, lancing devices, lancets,

and the list goes on. It’s a huge industry with some big and powerful

lobbyists. Maybe I’m being somewhat cynical but I truly think this is why

we are not seeing such a device on the market.

AS far as using the test solution, well, remember my disclaimer folks, but I

never use the stuff. AS I mentioned in a previous message, I'm at the point

where I can pretty much sense if a reading is off. In all these years, I've

never had a bottle of bad strips, at least, not that I remember. Which means if

I ever did have a problem, it was a long time ago, and it didn't happen very

from 3 places on his body that are easy to get to with the spring loaded

needle to get blood for the test strip. my fingers, my ear loaf and the head

I told that lady she had to be joking? she said no and it was in the book

she had and she could show me, but well I couldn't see it. I have you know I

told that lady if my finger didn't put out enough blood for the test, then I

wasn't going to poke my ear loaf and I damn sure wasn't going to poke the

read the very same thing she told me in a book about diabetes I ordered from

the Library! I can't even begin to think of any man doing this! he most

I give it some serious thought, the author of that book I bet was a female!

Hi Rick, it does take some time to do a alternate site test. It took me six

years before I could do it on my, arm.

I did try using the alternate site method but I couldn’t get it to work for

me at all.

speaking of testing has anyone tried testing on another spot on your body

except your finger i know they talk on tv that now you don't have to prick

your finger just curious if so how easy is it. i was thinking as hard as it

is to get blood from your finger on the strip what about another part of

your body and then what if you hita vein or something.

using the test salution?

Hi , yes, you should run control tests every time you open new strips.

Hi, from what i know, you should use the test solution every time u

open a new bottle of strips.

I don't use the test solution though. If the strips are open to long i

just switch bottles.

But that doesn't't happen as i am good at taking my sugar like 3 or 4

times a day

Mark:

When I used to give blood, they would take a sample by poking my earlobe.

It doesn't hurt as bad as the finger stick.

I was wondering the same thing. I tried one time on my arm and did not get

enough blood so it said Low on my Prodigy.

Rick,

You and I think alike. I can't help but think there are powerful forces at work

to keep non-invasive meters off the market. When this topic was more in the news

a few years back, there were tons of companies working to get something

approved. And then it was like they all simply went away. Absolutely nothing.

Now, I haven't Googled, but I'll bet there isn't anything happening in this

industry these days. If someone can prove me wrong, great, but I'm not too

hopeful.

Well, I'll stick with my experience as a general guideline. As many strips as I

use, to not have any bad ones says a whole lot.

I thought I heard the blood from some of these alternative sites isn't the right

blood. The portable meters work best with, what, capillary blood?

I did hear of a talking meter that took your sugar reading from your rest,

but I also heard it isn't all that correct in the number it gives you. they also

use to have BP machines to check your pressure this same way and they to wasn't

very correct. probably they will have a better way to check instead of the

finger stick, but it will more then likely be in 20 years and most of us here

now probably won't care a lot by then.

when I was in the hospital a few weeks back, a lady who was pulling some

blood for another heart test also used a drop to see what my sugar was. I told

her that the finger stick would be a better judge of where my sugar was. she

said it didn't matter where it came from. well I have read many books on

diabetes and they all said the finger stick is the best.
