This is the main reason I switched to the Solo V2 meter. It provides a warning

when there is insufficient blood. While the Prodigy Voice gives you a reading

most of the time, even if there isn't enough blood. Sometimes it will give an

error as I recall, but there are times you really don't know.

Mark, and all, I've been testing so long I often have a sense of where my bg

will be. If the meter were to give me a reading I felt was in error, there is a

good chance my intuition is correct.

Mark, you're on the right track by sensing where you should be. The best way to

safeguard against insufficient blood is to make sure you know how to get a good

sample of blood. Sometimes, someone sighted can be a good way to tell you how

good you prick your finger, and how well you bleed.

using the test salution?

So far in 2 weeks I haven't tested my meter with the test solution. mainly the

reason for this is the 2 bottles I got are both 2 years out dated. now where do

I get a new bottle? plus how much should I test my meter with the solution? best

I recall with out looking, that each bottle of strips has a range as where the

test should be if it is correct? am I correct or wrong about this? I'm wondering

because this morning my first test said my sugar was 98. ok this I know was

wrong. so I try again. this time it was 138. this could be right, but tried

again and the third time was 121. I'm going with the 138 because this is closer

to where it runs first thing of a morning. makes me wonder if all the other days

are coming out like this morning? 2 weeks ago I did take it at home before going

to see the specialist and his 140 test was very close to my reading before of

137. I know these meters will never always be right and there is a ten% or

higher error in our readings either way. well anyway I suppose I just need to

get a new bottle of test solution at my drug store is where I will look first. I

believe the instruction said to test once a week, but it has been a few years

since I looked at that disk.

AS far as using the test solution, well, remember my disclaimer folks, but I

never use the stuff. AS I mentioned in a previous message, I'm at the point

where I can pretty much sense if a reading is off. In all these years, I've

never had a bottle of bad strips, at least, not that I remember. Which means if

I ever did have a problem, it was a long time ago, and it didn't happen very

often.

Hi, from what i know, you should use the test solution every time u

open a new bottle of strips.

I don't use the test solution though. If the strips are open to long i

just switch bottles.

But that doesn't't happen as i am good at taking my sugar like 3 or 4

times a day

Dave,

This is definitely one issue I have sometimes with the Prodigy meter. I

constantly have trouble getting a good blood sample, especially in the

morning. I’ve tried all the tricks, milking the finger, running hot water

over my hands and so on. If you have any tips you can share regarding

getting a good blood sample, I’m all ears. I may have to think about the

Solo V2, but unfortunately, it’s strips are not fully covered by my plan and

the meter isn’t covered at all although it seems to be pretty inexpensive.

I like the Prodigy a lot but hate the fact that I do get readings that I

know for sure are way off. I sometimes get readings as low as in the 40s

and I know those are dead wrong. I can’t imagine having a reading that low

and not feeling it.

I've been told a lot when in the hospital that my skin is real tough to poke.

I have noticed at home I need to hit my finger 2 and some times 3 times before I

can get a good drop for the meter. I have also noticed if I didn't get a good

poke the meter won't pick up any blood the first few seconds I put my finger I

poked up to the strip. if I got a good poke and blood is there, the meter will

suck it up in a few seconds. I also fine I do better getting blood from my right

hand fingers instead of the left hand. one finger on the right hand is my

favorite to poke, but it gets really sore always going to it, so I move around.

I do know where my reading should be and this is why I retest. most of the time

if it takes me more then 30 seconds to get blood on the strip I know by this I

need to get out a new strip and start over. I didn't know if the testing

solution was suppose to clean the meter on the in side or was it just to make

sure your meter is reading correctly? I've tried to use solution way back in the

past, but have never really had much luck with using it. blood from my finger is

a lot easier for me.

well this is good enough for me. going to pitch the old bottles and not

worry about it. I do retest if it sounds off and if the reading continues to

come out where I don't believe it should be, then I will get out the meter that

requires sight and go bother a neighbor.

I have had some of that same trouble. But today I got a surprise. I got

enough blood on the first sample I took and I got a reading of 87.

I think it really could be right but I will see what tomorrow brings.

I have never had a reading in the 80s or 90s.

I wonder if folks are having more success with specific kinds of lancets or

lancing devices?

I’m using an Acucheck multiclick lancing device and the lancet cartridges

that go with it. I’m wondering if I would have more success using a

different gauge needle? It might hurt a little more but it would beat

having to poke myself 2 or 3 times to get a valid reading.

You're right I think. I've had quite a few lancet devices over the years, as

many others probably also have, and they do tend to vary. I always crank the tip

so it pokes me as deep as possible. When I'm alone and checking by myself, I

always prick my finger a couple times. I've jabbed a finger as many as 6 times

on occasion!

Rick,

I have the same problem and have been doing BG since the early 80’s. that

is one thing I do not like about the Prodigy (and about the only thing) is

that it does not tell you when there is not enough blood. I often have to

do more than one BG as the meter tells me “low Blood sugar” or gives me aBG

of 20 I can also do my BGs on only one hand as the doc does not want me to

use hand on the arm where my dialysis shunt, so my poor fingers on the left

hand are terribly callused and sore.

Somebody has to come up with a better way. I want a meter that you can just

Hi Pat:

I have a question about dialysis. You say that there is a shunt in the arm?

Does that hurt and are you prone to infections there?

I am terrified of going on dialysis. Does it hurt when you are getting it? I

hope you don't think I am too nosy. Do you feel

anything when it is taking place? also, isn't there a kind that you can do

yourself at home or get help doing at home? Hope you

don't mind my questions. it just makes me feel creepy to think of it, and to

tell you the truth, i sincerely hope I never need it.

yesterday is history. Tomorrow a mystery. Today is a gift, that is why it is

called the present.

using the test salution?

So far in 2 weeks I haven't tested my meter with the test solution. mainly

the reason for this is the 2 bottles I got are both 2 years out dated. now

where do I get a new bottle? plus how much should I test my meter with the

solution? best I recall with out looking, that each bottle of strips has a

range as where the test should be if it is correct? am I correct or wrong

about this? I'm wondering because this morning my first test said my sugar

was 98. ok this I know was wrong. so I try again. this time it was 138. this

could be right, but tried again and the third time was 121. I'm going with

the 138 because this is closer to where it runs first thing of a morning.

makes me wonder if all the other days are coming out like this morning? 2

weeks ago I did take it at home before going to see the specialist and his

140 test was very close to my reading before of 137. I know these meters

will never always be right and there is a ten% or higher error in our

readings either way. well anyway I suppose I just need to get a new bottle

of test solution at my drug store is where I will look first. I believe the

instruction said to test once a week, but it has been a few years since I

looked at that disk.

Hi Rick:

Oh I sure agree. I mean, they can put that little thing on your finger to

determine if your oxygen levels are ok. There must be a

way.

It's call non-invasive, and a few years ago, it looked like it might be coming,

but since then, I've heard nothing.

speaking of testing has anyone tried testing on another spot on your body

except your finger i know they talk on tv that now you don't have to prick

your finger just curious if so how easy is it. i was thinking as hard as it

is to get blood from your finger on the strip what about another part of

your body and then what if you hita vein or something.

Hi Rick, you might want to look into, Accu-Chek for your lancing device. Most of

them have four or, five depth settings. But Accu-Chek has eleven. I know this to

be true because I am currently using Accu-Chek.

The depth setting is already on 5 which is the max on this device.

also what u might try is setting the depth level for pokibng your finger.

That will probably work. It may hurt more but it usually works.

Hi,

If one can get one’s oxygen level from a device which looks at the finger

with some sort of laser lights then why not blood sugar levels?

You're right I think. I've had quite a few lancet devices over the years, as

many others probably also have, and they do tend to vary. I always crank the tip

so it pokes me as deep as possible. When I'm alone and checking by myself, I

always prick my finger a couple times. I've jabbed a finger as many as 6 times

on occasion!

I've been told a lot when in the hospital that my skin is real tough to poke. I

have noticed at home I need to hit my finger 2 and some times 3 times before I

can get a good drop for the meter.

I didn't know if the testing

solution was suppose to clean the meter on the in side or was it just to make

sure your meter is reading

correctly? I've tried to use solution way back in the past, but have never

really had much luck with using it. blood from my finger is a lot easier for me.

now I know most of you won't believe this, but when I first found out I was

a T 2, the saw bones sent me to a lady who done her best to explain to me what I

had and what I should do and how to eat and all that stuff. she also showed me

the meter that they gave me and of course it didn't talk, but it was free and

all I had right then. she explained to me and my wife was there with me as a

witness to what this lady told me. she said a man can get blood from 3 places on

his body that are easy to get to with the spring loaded needle to get blood for

the test strip. my fingers, my ear loaf and the head of my little buddy! I'm

here to let you ladies and gentlemen know right now, I told that lady she had to

be joking? she said no and it was in the book she had and she could show me, but

well I couldn't see it. I have you know I told that lady if my finger didn't put

out enough blood for the test, then I wasn't going to poke my ear loaf and I

damn sure wasn't going to poke the end of my manhood! I thought that lady was

full of cow poop, but later I read the very same thing she told me in a book

about diabetes I ordered from the Library! I can't even begin to think of any

man doing this! he most certainly would have to be off his nut or a bit in love

with pain. just the thought of the ear loaf is enough to make my ears hurt right

now, but the other thought isn't feeling good at all right now and I never give

it a second passing thought! crazy, just to crazy! I'm starting to think now

that I give it some serious thought, the author of that book I bet was a female!

probably a divorced female at that!

Hi , alternative testing is fairly easy to do. I do it roughly about once a

month.
