My daughter is 5yrs 8 months old and has profound hearing loss. Her

left ear is better then right ear, which she uses for most of

listening. From her right ear she doesn't responds to ling sounds and

she may not be using this ear for listening. She is a great lip

reader and has good language and doe's most of the things by speech

reading. In fact, we tried a lot to develop her listening. I feel,

she didn't have potential to develop listening with left ear, which

again has a profound loss. When the set size is small say 5, she

responds by listening. Her open set score may be very small. By left

ear she respond to ling sounds except Sh and s. Sometimes she

responds to loud Sh.

I am planing to go for nucleus 24 straight electrode cochlear

implant.

Which ear should she go for implant? She will undergo MRI next week.

Will she be able to develop listening skills at this age?

It is said that this surgery should be done at early age. How good

is the candidate, if she has good language?

Can she use digital hearing aid in other ear?. Most of the children

with implant doesn't use hearing aid in other ear.

Any sharing of knowledge will be appreciated.

Regards
