Guest guest
Well, I am now very frustrated and need ideas. Cameron started vomiting around Halloween when we changed his formula and put him back on Prevacid. We started steroids for esophagitis and the vomiting went away until the Monday before Thanksgiving. I suspect he caught a nasty virus because he had a temp of 104 and was lethargic etc. His fever broke and with a slow drip of pedialite I kept him out of the hospital. He got back to his old self energy wise after about a week. He finished his steroids (prednisone) and he just has never been able to get back up to his recommended volume of formula per day. We increased the calories since he fell back down below the fifth percentile for weight / height ratio. He started gaining weight despite the lower volume. OK here we are after he developed a rash, got over it, kept his weight on ( even gained), he gets constipated with the rash we try mineral oil, his doctor was unavailable for the rash/constipation /vomiting issues so we saw his colleague. His dr. said let's not give him anymore mineral oil because it was not working and if aspirated it is big trouble (great!) We gave him a glycerin suppository and it worked. We thought maybe the constipation was causing the vomiting. So, he goes from Sat. til Thurs. again with no BM, but straining and trying. I give him another suppository and call the dr. I take him off prevacid (because it caused vomiting before when we tried it) I put him back on Zantac. We give him lactulose for constipation (started last night two doses and no BM yet). He is vomiting so often that we have those ugly mauve hospital tubs strategically placed around the house. We have three and need more! I am tired, he vomits in the middle of the night almost every night. He is on a slow drip 50ml/hr (he was up to 65 before all these problems started) He vomits most mornings, in the afternoon (meds are not kept down very well and I can see how that is effecting him) vomits most evenings. Since he somehow is not dehydrated, not lethargic and holding his weight (although he looks thinner these last two days) I am trying to remain positive and not go totally insane!!! My laundry is piling up., I am getting no REM sleep, and I still have three other kids I would like to spend time with during this "Winter Break". But all I am doing is cleaning up vomit, washing laundry, giving meds, administering g-tube feeds and of course checking this sight since only people here could possibly relate. OK , I have vented (even rambled) please give me your suggestions. We have contacted Children's hosp. GI dept. and are waiting to hear back. My ped is wonderful but as stumped as I am and I will talk to him tomorrow. We talked Fri night and hoped the Zantac vs.. Prevacid and lactulose would help. Maybe I just need to give it time.Thank you all for reading this, if you even got this far. Sorry it is so long. Anyone have these severe vomiting issues? He used to have them when he was an infant and was on continuous drip but I hate that and want very badly for him to be on these bolus feeds (rate 450ml/hr dose 150ml every three or so hours if we are lucky, been giving 120 to 130ml every three hours to decrease volume in hopes he can take 4oz at a time) Hope to hear from you soon,
Guest guest
, Yes I can totally relate. Sam has these vomiting issues to. The pedialyte does help some also. Is he sick with flu or is it a cyclic episode? when ever Sam is sick with vomiting she gets tigan suppositories to help. But they are suppose to be for nausea. They help her though. Just a thought. Hope things settle soon. > >Reply-To: Mito >To: <Mito > >Subject: vomiting, volume intolerance >Date: Sun, 29 Dec 2002 16:45:52 -0800 > >Well, I am now very frustrated and need ideas.
