The doctor insisted it couldn't be because of the Miralax, but I stopped it anyway (after which he immediately stopped the blinking problem), so the doctor then put him on Lactulose. For eight straight days, he didn't poop at all. Nothing. (He was getting plenty of water.) I still don't know why this was. But at this point, I stopped giving him any medications for his constipation, figuring whatever else I tried couldn't do any worse, and lost all faith in mainstream medication and doctors. I started giving him digestive enzymes, put him on a gfcf diet (I think lactulose contains casein, but I'm not positive about this), and started treating him for yeast, and it's been all uphill since that time. Of course, all kids are different, but you asked, and that was our story. Debbie
Guest guest
Ethan's story is outlined on dana's site. He HAD been successful on the lactulose and then a doc, who had obviously been given a free sample from the company turned us on to the miralax. AFTER that whole two month ordeal on the miralax, then he reacted BADLY to even the lactulose and he could not even be on ANYTHING for the constipation because his gut was so screwed up. What I do not know about lactulose is whether or not it will feed yeast/bacteria and perhaps someone else can answer that question for you. Otherwise, my only advice about the lactulose is MAKE SURE you give it with at least 8 ounces of water. Giving it with enough water is VERY important for it to work properly. Also keep in mind that this product DOES cross over the GI tract into the bloodstream-- that's how they do intestinal permeability tests-- they use mannitol and lactulose and measure the amounts of both that came through. Guest guest
Have you tried ground Flax Seeds? My son had only trouble on the lactulose. He was either still constipated or he had diarrhea. As soon as we stared giving him 2 tablespoons of ground Flax Seeds per day he had no more trouble with constipation. Robin [ ] Re: miralax vs lactulose/Dana Ethan's story is outlined on dana's site. Guest guest
My child gets regular bowel movements when we give him strong pro-biotic every day. When we skip a day I can tell. Babies have it. I used it some time ago and had no problems with it.

Guest guest
Dana, I am so sorry that Ethan had such a horrible experience with Miralax.. thanks for getting the info out there. You might want to consider changing one small detail though just for accuracy.. nephrotoxic is KIDNEY toxixity (not liver which is hepatotoxicity) it might be important for others reading it as to what symptoms to watch for and prior history.. sorry to be nit picky but it might be important for people to know this.. hope Ethan is well

That page was written for me by someone else, whose opinion I trust. The person who wrote it, did agree with the correction you indicated, and I have changed my page. Thanks for pointing that out. http://www.danasview.net/miralax.htm Dana
