My 13 yo daughter just went to the orthopedist because her knees hurt all

the time. What we were told was that it really is growing pains.

Apparently the muscles are not keeping up with the bone growth. They took

X-rays and showed us how the bones were being pulled out of position.

She is 4'10 " and weighs about 80 lbs.

If your son is that big at age 6, perhaps he is going through a similar

growth issue.

[ ] OT/6 year old boy's feet hurting

I have one more OT question. For the last week, my 6 year old son has

been getting up in the mornings saying his feet hurt. He is walking on his

heels. Later in the day, he says they feel better. This sounds like

authritis. He is a very big boned boy, wears a size 2 shoe, and weighs 70

LBS. And he is not fat. He is very trim, just very big. Could this be

growing pains? We have an appointment with the Pd tomorrow. This boy also

has asthma. Am wondering if kids develop juvi authritis, do they develop it

earlier, or at this age? Am I being paranoid? Anyone had a kid with growing

pains like this?

Thanks for any info!

Wanted to answer this post also. I have this problem too with my

feet. I think I know how your son feels. If I get up in the middle of

the night, I can barely walk. It is almost like walking on hot coals

or something, very painful. They will feel like this in the morning

too but will feel better as I get up and move around.

My feet also burn alot. Very very painful. All my shoes hurt my

feet and if I am active it is worse. I am thinking that mercury could

be a problem and plan to detox after I have my amalgams removed next

month. barb in little rock

Your son's hurting feet could be signs of Vitamin D deficiency,

according to Willis S. Langford. Someone recently posted the

information below.

His lecture was given at the Autism One Conference at Loyola

University May 2003.

Thanks for the feedback. That is what I am suspicious of. Hopefully you are

right. He is a very big child for his age.

My husband said he used to have terrible growing pains but I believe he was

older when they occurred.

There is a condition related to metals poisoning called perripheral

neuropathy that gives you a tingling pain, like your hands or feet being

" asleep " that

you might consider. My son used to have that and would be walking fine and

suddenly have to sit down due to the pain.

Hormonal and nutritional problems can also cause soreness in the legs and

feet. I used to pains in my legs and feet in the AM or after sitting for a long

while before I began taking progesterone. Low potassium, and I think calcium,

can also cause pains.

Hmmm, my first thought would be he needs more minerals. Chelation takes not

only the bad stuff but a lot of the good as well.

We are going through the same thing with our son right now. He is

4.7 years old (37 pounds) and for the past 3 weeks he has been waking

up at night crying and holding his legs. Once we give him Motrin he

seems fine but still stiff when he wakes up. If he doesn't get the

Motrin at night he wakes hysterical and can't walk in the morning.

We just got an x-ray today which was normal. Now we have to go for

blood work. We are on our 28th round of chelation (3rd with

ALA/DMSA). Could this have anything to do with it? It seemed to

start right along with the 1st ALA/DMSA round.

Thanks!

It sounds like it could be a mineral deficiency, very likely magnesium but

there could be multiple mineral deficiencies. has be been improving on

chelation generally?

This sounds like me when I don't get magnesium and/or zinc.

Hi...just wanted to share this...not that I have a solution!

My son's feet have hurt at nights since he was 3 probably. He's almost 8

now! His pediatrician always said not to worry, it's growing pains! He'd

wake up religiously around 3:00AM (+/-) and complain about one or both of

his feet hurting. A lot of massaging and typically Motrin would help. I was

concerned that I was giving him so much Motrin, but didn't know what else to

do! I was told at that time that it might be a deficiency of magnesium or

potassium? I forget. Anyway, I didn't do anything about it and now it has

reduced considerably...rarely gets it, though it just happened two nights

ago. I think it hurt a lot, 'cause he asked me in his sleep why do his feet

hurt so much? He has been on Potassium/ Magnesium supplements off and on

lately. I wonder if that helped.

Funny though, my 5 year old daughter is far bigger for her age than him, but

she's never complained of any growing pains!

Sorry couldn't help you!
