First of all, I just wanted to say thanks to whoever started this

board - From previous posts, I can tell the enormous impact it has

made on many lives and as an outsider, I can feel the love and

support which has given me the nudge to tell my story. Just a

warning, I tend to get long winded, so please forgive me if I

ramble :)

A little background on me - My name is Sharon and I'm 25 yrs old. I

live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area in Texas and I have been married for

a little over a year. When I was 16, I started having monsterous

cramps that left me doubled over in tears and my family doctor told

me I was fine, just had bad luck with cramps. I didn't think to get

checked with an actual gyn since the nurse prac. did my pap smears,

etc. Years later, my now mother-in-law insisted I go to her gyn and

after hearing what I had been through, he suspected that I had

endometriosis. On 9/13/02, one month before my wedding, I had the

lap/hyst to remove the endo.

During the surgery, he took pics of my uterus and while I was still

half asleep, he showed them to me, my husband, and mother-in-law.

From the pictures, he suspected that I either had a BU or a SU but

wasn't sure. Six months later, he sent me to get a HSG where the

doctor there confirmed that I had a SU, however I still don't know to

what extreme. From what I understand though, the wall separates my

uterus completely, but they never told me where the wall ended. I

didn't think at the time to find out - it was all new to me. My gyn

told me he wanted to do the surgery to remove the septum, but when he

described the surgery, it sounded so ... I can't think of the word

for it, but it reminded me of the stone ages...lol. If anyone likes,

I'll be happy to post what he had said, but it made me uncomfortable

to even think about that I didn't want to make anyone else reading

this uncomfortable as well. He basically suggested that I don't get

pregnant until after I have the septum removed due to the possible

complications, even though the surgery itself had enough

complications as well. He told me to call him if I had any other

questions, but to think about what I wanted to do.

Shift to the present - I work for a small business that doesn't have

insurance or paid vacations/sick time/etc. so we were going to put

money in savings to have for when I decided to have surgery, that way

we wouldn't be left stranded with me not getting a pay check. All was

going well until my husband lost his job and now we don't have

insurance at all. We figured as long as nothing major happened, we'd

be ok.

Well, about a week ago, I started having minor cramps - I don't know

that you would really call them cramps...kinda like that feeling you

get when your body is trying to get your attention. You can just feel

it. I've been getting tired a lot faster recently and the last few

days I've been having mood swings. I thought maybe pms, but I should

be clear for another week at least. I talked to a friend who knows

about my situation and she said that it sounded like I was pregnant.

Thing is, I can't do the at home test for at least another week

before it will be more accurate.

Long story short, I basically wanted to introduce myself, but I also

wanted to know what you all thought. Since none of you would be

biased since you don't know me (yet..hehe) I figured you all would be

honest with what you thought. With my husband out of work at the

moment, I haven't told him the possibility because I don't want to

stress him more. We both want a family, but we were willing to wait

until after the surgery.

Truth is, I'm scared. This would be my first pregnancy and I know it

will be a challenge, but I don't know how to prepare for what all

could happen. Once again, I'm sorry for being so long winded, but I

had to start somewhere :)

> Hey Sharon-

hmmmmmmmmm--- did you get to cobra any insurance after your dh lost

his job????? It might not be a bad idea to check out---may be cheaper

than paying for a hi risk prg---lots of u/s and the birth alone is

not inexpensive---- just a thought-----there are several SU mommies

who had had " normal " prg with su, and healthy babies--(without the

surgery) and there are several who would highly recommend the

surgery---obviously if you are prg---you will not be able to have the

surgery yet---- this group will help you to know your risks, and what

to look for---- you also may be Bu, which generally does not go for

surgery----I am Bu, and have a large septum (3/4 way down) my ds grew

entirely on the right side---

Good luck---I cant wait to hear if you are prg or not!

Though we haven't done anything about the Cobra insurance yet, we

still have the info just in case. Hopefully though, he'll find

another job soon and that won't be an issue.

I told him last night about the possibility and this morning I

tested, but the test was negative. I'm not sure if it was time for me

to test or not so now we'll just wait and see if I'm late before I

test again. Either way, we'll be happy :) Thanks again for the

insight!
