Guest guest
Emma, One of my friends told me about that episode of Oprah. I don't watch Oprah much anymore because the subject matter is usually not appropriate for 7 year olds, and my daughter is usually around when it's on. I read the transcript on the web. Like you, I was shocked. I sent a message about my feelings and her eveident lack thereof. Miss " politically correct " really blew it on that one!! My suggestion was to do a show on epilepsy and the effects it has on patients and their families. Also mentioned how well my daughter was doing on the diet and suggested she consider talking about that. She's gotta know about Charlie Abrahams, wouldn't you think??? There was also a thread on EFA e-communities a while back. Several participants there sent messages also. The more " complaints " that are sent, the better, I say. Guest guest
How about the recent commercial featuring Tiger Woods and Barkley. Tiger and " SIR " are golfing and Tigers tiger wood cover asks Barkley, " Is that a practice swing or a seizure? " I think the add may be for Nike, not sure. Guest guest
Thanks. I responded. Anyone see Oprah? - seizures are funny??? Hi all, I know this is not about the diet , but it does concern ALL of us. I got a call today from a friend who was outraged at the Oprah show. She has a son who had Infantile Spasms as an infant and is now a teenager who still suffers from intractible seizures. She said that the fab five (queer eye for the straight guy) were on her show trying to help some men out with their problems. Some needed makeovers, cooking lessons, etc... One of the wives said her man needs help with dancing because when he dances he foams at the mouth and looks like he's convulsing. Then she went on to say that she nicknamed him " seizure boy. " OH MY GOD!!!!! I was in shock to hear this. If anyone is interested in making any comments to Oprah go to her link http://www.oprah.com/email/tows/email_tows_main.jhtml I myself am in shock about this. I had emailed oprah about a year ago regarding having a show on Epilepsy to raise awareness and mentioned my son had epilepsy surgery. My friend who gave me the news once sent a tape of her son trying to get a show that would raise awareness on epilepsy. Both of us tried and we heard nothing, but apparently it's funny to joke about it. The audience all laughed about the whole thing. I know a lot has to do with ignorance , but I think it's really sad :-( Sorry, but I needed to vent. I'm spreading the word hoping many will comment on the show. Thanks, Emma (mom to 6-yr-old - Infantile Spasms, surgery at 15 months - still not seizure free- on diet 3 months) " The Ketogenic Diet....a realistic treatment option, NOT just a last resort!
