It is the best surgery for alleviating pain from the pancreas than any other surgery. Other surgeries leave a pancreas in the body that is sick and has been cut on. Many times when a surgeon does one of these pancreas surgeries where they leave part of the pancreas in after it has been cut on the pain comes back with a vengeance. With the pancreatectomy the whole pancreas is removed and the islet are taken from the pancreas and implanted into the liver in the portal vein and that is where they live and do their job of controlling blood sugar. I had the pancreatectomy and islet cell transplant last Dec. and I am pain free and I can eat what I want. Dr. Sutherland is the best Doctor in the world in my opinion when it comes to operating on the pancreas. He does pancreas transplants all the time. He is so kind and has such good bedside manner also. So if you are interested I will be happy to e-mail you more information about him and the surgery and I can connect you with others who have had the same surgery as I had and they are doing great also.
