Guest guest
This is Fonda's area. But sometimes this happens and when it's over (either anti-inflamatories or steroids, depending on the situation and the Doc) it's over. Sometimes it turns out to be an ongoing problem ...an autoimmune problem, actually. Also they may put him on a blood thinner to avoid clots forming. No sense being worried, just follow the Doc's orders and read up on it. I really try not to worry about anything ever, doesn't always work but it is much healthier when it does. Kathy Need some help Alan went to the dr and they said that his carotid(sp) artery is inflamed. Anyone know anything about this? Should we be really worried?SharonPlease visit our website at:http://ACES_Autoimmune.tripod.com

Guest guest
Its my understanding that carotid inflammation is often a precursor for carotid stenosis. which is a narrowing of the carotid artery that can lead to stroke. I'll ask one of my surgeons tomorrow what the treatment should be. I mostly see the patients who already have severe carotid stenosis. I think that prednisone is sometimes used. A and an anticoagulant, too. If he smokes, he needs to stop immediately. Will find out more and let you know.
