I wish the both of you great success.

You folks have amazing insurance. I've always had to fight for permission to

go out of my plan. And if so granted, I had to pay all travel expenses.

There are other factors that prohibit some from going for the surgery.

One is purely financial.

Another is time consideration. It's not possible for many to just pick up

and go for major surgery and then need time to recover.

For some of, those who have diabetes, the islet autograft may not be viable.

Again, finances come into play as some insurers will not cover it.

And, as Dr. Sutherland wrote to me, if we're Type II, we'll become Type I, an

option that we'd like to postpone.

Please keep us posted.

Shirley and everyone:

As you must know, insurance companies do not all work the same way. Some

approve what others deny.

Here's what Dr. Sutherland wrote about it:

<<If the time does come that you would benefit from a pancreatecomy, it

should be covered by your insurance. The islet autograft is another thing,

some cover, some do not...>>
