Guest guest
Hi Cara: Don't know if K. Beckett pays for that sort of stuff but here in Outagamie I believe through family support they pay for the mileage. YOU must get the approval BEFORE you leave. Then they will mail you a form that will have on it the doctor you see and you record the mileage. You are also allowed a meal coverage. I don't know about evening meals on how that works but when we go to Madison we are allowed one meal the next day. You can check with your case worker on that one. But it helps that they cover the mileage which adds up and in turns pays for the gas. Don't know about lodging, you can check that out too seeing as you are going to Mayo. Guest guest
What about the Mc House? Once there, they can help sometimes with food. Also, maybe a local organization can adopt your family. Good luck! Darlene
Guest guest
cara- If you can't get into the Mc house- there was a hotel that we used-right across the street from the Mayo-also connected by tunnel. I always booked it online & it was cheap! $90. Our MA covered $50.00. Rooms had a kitchen w/all the stuff, micro, refrig, two beds, sitting room, and best of all (for the kids) a pool. My goodness Lily was fearless in the pool! Breakfast, and parking also included. Let me know if you need the name- Good luck with your appointment. Guest guest
, I think you mean Executive by Kahler or some similar name? we stayed there last time and could again. I actually did call Mc House as another listmate mentioned and we will stop in there but have another reservation at a hotel that takes RM overflow. So I think it will work out fine. The overflow hotel has a kitchenette and we will bring our griddle along. We'll manage. I've debated about RM House. We stayed at a diff one - diff state - with first child. I just hesitate to walk into one again. It's a great place - it's just an emotion thing for me. Also, if there are really sick kids around, and there will be, will start obsessing about death again - it's a common topic for him anyway - and I don't want to set him off. But then again, RM House has a playroom and stuff.. I forget where you live, are you close? we will actually be taking our daughter up to Little Falls to visit with family while the rest of us are in Rochester. So if you are anywhere between L. Falls and Rochester... cara Re: ? for wisconsin listmates cara- If you can't get into the Mc house- there was a hotel that we used-right across the street from the Mayo-also connected by tunnel. Guest guest
Cara- Yes I am in between Little Falls & Rochester, depending on what road your taking. I am 1 1/2 hours north of St ( on 35N) and due East of Mille Lacs Lake (30 miles east of Lake on Hwy 18/10 miles from freeway). The door is always open for a potty breaks & food. We live in a semi reshaped(slower that I'd like) old farm house, we have 2 horses, 2 cows, 75 baby chicks, a huge garden, 80 acres, and a great little stream for cooling off. In short, we feel it's a small piece of heaven. You are always welcome. I totally understand about RM house, although we never stayed there.( I tried in the cities & Rochester but they both told me Lily was not " sick enough " -that Mito didn't count. Huh!?!) In our case it was my husband that would have difficulty with all the super sick kids, in the waiting rooms of some of the specialists. He would always play with them and leave " like an Eoyore " . With Lily she was so young we never had to discuss her health & possible death with her. Having an older child has got to add a very complicated wrinkle to dealing with a mito disorder. Death is also a common topic at our house, with Lilys sibs. Ada (4) especially is still noodeling her way around her parameters of heaven. She always hits you with a zinger when you least expect it. Fires off a statement or questions and leaves her parents (or day care provider) reeling in her wake. The waves in the wake she leaves for me are getting smaller-so I feel I must be on the journey of healing. Deb has some tough times ahead.
