Guest guest
Treat the area by sprinkling with " Flowers of sulfur " (which is elemental sulfur that you can get from any pharmacy) and then wipe it up using a paper towel while wearing rubber gloves. Then ventilate the heck out of the area without anyone in the room. Mercury is extremely volatile and it is the vapor phase that does the most damage. [ ] Need Help IMMEDIATELY PLEASE A friend of mine's children just broke a mercury thermometer. The mercury is all over the computer and desk and down into her carpet. Is there any safe way of getting it up out of the carpet?? Also, any ideas on what kind of danger her children are in? She is pretty sure they played with it. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
Guest guest
Shouldn't a mercury poisoning test be in order too? With kids, hands go directly to the mouth. If that had been my children I'd make an appt. tomorrow for a test to see what got in. Guest guest
Thanks for the input. What kind of doctor would have a mercury poisoning test? I know of a neurologist in town who is familiar with mercury issues, would that be her best bet? > > Treat the area by sprinkling with " Flowers of sulfur " (which is > > elemental sulfur that you can get from any pharmacy) and then wipe > it up > > using a paper towel while wearing rubber gloves. Guest guest
I would move kids to any other house and not let them come back before everything is cleaned and the carpet is replaced. Guest guest
Do NOT vacuum, that spreads it everywhere. Have the kids change out of those clothes and shoes right away. Double bag them, and put them on the porch. Keep them away from the spill area. Reminder to everyone, take all of your mercury thermometers to the toxic waste collection site ASAP. They all end up breaking, sooner or later, if you keep them around the house.
