Guest guest
Hi Karla, I'm so sorry to hear what you've been through, but I'm glad you found this group for support. I'm in a very similar situation as you are. I've also had many early miscarriages, as well as an ep. My ep was treated with a drug, though, which has had its own set of complications. I'd recommend that you make an appointment with (or get a referral to) a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE) to discuss your miscarriage issue. I kept getting pg so easily, and kept thinking it was a fluke each time I miscarried--so I would try again, get pg, and the same thing kept happening. After 3 early miscarriages and then the ep, I came to the realization that I do have a " recurrent miscarriage " problem. My RE is helping me with this. Unfortunately, I had the ep before I could follow his treatment plan--but I'll be back on track soon. Just a suggestion because I really, truly know what you've been through and how emotionally difficult loss after loss is. I can totally relate. This is a great group. Feel free to ask anything at all. BTW, I'm also 34.
Guest guest
Hi Karla, Oh good--I'm glad you'll be going to an RE, because there is a world of difference in how they treat these problems. My gyne kept saying to try again. My RE says to ABSOLUTELY NOT try again without treatment or I will miscarry again. He says recurrent miscarriage is a real problem that shouldn't be ignored. It's funny that I got the referral the same way as you did. My gyne just didn't know what to do with me, and didn't want to see me go through loss after loss anymore. Basically, the RE went over the causes of recurrent miscarriage and ran several tests. The causes can be 1) chromosonal 2) infection 3) antibodies 3) uterus and 4) hormones. He narrowed the cause down to antibodies and hormones (progesterone) with me. I'm going to get an HSG in the coming month to determine if I have tubal issues too. After my ep, I really started to wonder if my other losses were tubal pregnancies that just resolved themselves. I haven't had a consultation with my RE since the ep--but it's something I need to bring up with him. My ep was way back in Sept, but my HCG is still not down to zero yet-- which is the complication with the drug treatment that I mentioned in my other note. I'm fortunate, too, in that my insurance covers 3 IVF attempts, but they won't cover it until I fail at other, less extreme means of treatment. Since you've been pg so many times (like I have), you most likely don't have trouble ovulating or sperm problems. It's most likely something on the back end in maintaining the pregnancy. I hope I'm making sense.
