You are lucky to have found a great rheumy...I hope that he doesn't find

anything serious though, and great news about the pred taper-off, I'm at 7.5

mg and on Wed go down to 5 mg... yiiipppeeee!!! my moon-face is going away

Sorry to hear your nurse was such a bag!! Are you on immunosuppressants too?

I went into my doc today and they were doing flu shots already. Maybe you

should sneak into Canada, they seam to be handing them out like hot cakes

here. All hospital and home care workers that don't get them won't be able

to go to work. I sure wish I could send you one. Just tell that nurse if you

get sick you'll come and stay at her house!!!!

Update On Glenda

Hello all!

Well the doctors office finally called me back! They want me to go

in for more blood work! My tests on Monday showed that I was low on

Folic Acid & B12. That's it! Chest x-ray okay according to primary

care office. Didn't talk to dr. talked to nurse of another dr. who

works in the office of my primary care Doctor.

My Rheumy isn't in the office on Wednesday's so I have to wait until

tomorrow to call him back. I am about ready to scream at both of

them. I swear if the two don't get their acts together I am going to

go into one of their offices and let them have it.

I advised the receptionist of my rheumy wanting me to get pnemonia

and flu shot. And was told they aren't putting anyone on a list and

that they don't expect the vacines until the end of this month or the

first of next month. I told her I had a surpressed immune system and

it was like talking to a wall.

Do I sound a little upset. Yes I am! Anyway I don't go in until

next week on Monday to get the blood work done at the PCP's office so

it is hurry up and wait! I am going to call my rheumy tomorrow to

see what he says. I am sure it will be a whole different story

because that is how it was on Monday when I saw him after my PCP. I

hate this HMO crap it is about to make me crazy!

Anyway now that I have ranted and raved I will shut up! Hope

everyones day is going better than mine!LOL

The shots I got didn't even hurt! Ha-Ha!!! The girl

that gave them to me was very good. Although she was

the same one that smacked my arm to get the veins to

come up when I had blood drawn.

I can't even tell where the shots are. I have had the

flu shots several years now and never had any problem

with them. I hope your dr. does have the shots so you

can get it. We who have RP don't need to get any

sicker!LOL

Hi guys

I went to the doctor this morning. I got good news on

the most part.

My doctor was amazed at the results for my pulmonary

tests. He says that I can breath better than most

people. He said that was a very good sign. He said

that it was highly unlikely that my RP was effecting

me there. GOOOD NEWS! My Mom always used to tell me

I had a healthy set of lungs but I don't think she

meant it that way!LOL (BIG MOUTH)

My blood pressure was 150/100 the top has went down

but bottom number hasn't. He wants me to keep track

of it for a couple weeks.

My legs were swollen when I went in which was good

because then he could see them. They are not as bad

as they have been but swollen none the less. He says

it is not the RP. I didn't think it was as it is not

hurting like RP. He says the swelling is the after or

during effects of pred. The water weight is causing

my blood pressure to be off too. He put me on a

diozide which is a dieretic. Said to take one a day

for a week and then one every other day and to call

him in two weeks. He said we would go from there.

My next appt. will not be until Jan. if all is going

well still. Everyone keep your fingers crossed that

it all goes well please! I am tired of dr. right now.

It sees like I have been to doctors 20 times in the

be depressing.LOL

weight gain. He said not to worry about it. Yah

right, he doesn't weigh 200 lbs.LOL

Hooray for your lungs! Sounds like most of your problems are from the meds

(prednisone). The dyazide should help. Did he ask you to check your

potassium level in a week or so? If not, he should -- you should call his

office (so you don't have to see him). I knokw what you mean about being

tired of doctors. I saw so many at Mayo it did me in.!

I' crossing everything (even down to my pancreas whic is about as far in as

you can go) that all goes well -- even better!! for you.

Glad you got good news Glenda!!!

The ide might make you feel a little tired and weak while you're on it,

so be prepared for that and drink as much orange juice as you can. It does

help!!!

Locate all the nearest bathrooms when you go out anywhere too. LOL Your

body will be ridding itself of fluid now and you need to know the nearest

location of the closest bathroom. LOLOLOL

Do keep a close eye on that bottom number on your BP. That is high, so check

it daily or every other day.

I'm also on ide, so if you have any questions, just ask.

Glad to hear your RP is behaving itself girl!!!

I have had all kinds of tests in the last few months.

They thought I was anemic and everything else. Found

nothing but the RP, a bad infection(cold) and now my

I would say you are such a sweetie but I know

better!LOL How about you are terrific. I will ask

you if I have anymore questions which I am sure I

will. About the bathrooms. Yah right. I work on a

plant site and have to run to a bathroom as it is.

There are only 4 left on the plant site for women.

The rest are all used by men and the are just awful.

Sorry guys. The guys that work in that plant are real

pigs. I am not going to go into details. I will

remember that about the bathrooms and try to stay

close to those. This ought to be interesting.LOL

I went to the one in Rochester Minnesota. It's a really top flight

operation -- everything is very well done and organized (well, for a medical

place, anyway), They have quite a system set up. And they keep you busy.

Lots of tests, lots of doctors -- but they make a little " program " for you.

I waited over 6 months from the time I called until my appointment though.

Maybe that'll work out 'cause MN has some mighty cruel winter weather

sometime. But not to worry, Like I said, they have a " subway " system which

is a series of underground (and a few air ones) walkways. They actually

have more shops and stuff in the subways than at the malls they have. And

you can use one hour of internet a day for free at the Rochester library (I

was there almost one month, they thought up so much stuff for me to do) --

no wait, it was $5 for a month. It's only a couple of blocks from the main

clinic complex (they have lots of buildings with clinics). If you go, let

me know, I'll try to remember some of the places to eat, though there's lots

and lots of them. And if you go South to a town called Harmony,(what a

great name for a small small town, yeah?)they have a settlement of Amish.

That was really interesting - the one thing I did in the month I was there

that wasn't Mayo related.

Well, you may not have to stay a month -- I think that was a bit long even

for them. Although one of the hotel people said they had people that stayed

one year! And we met a guy who uses the place we stayed at as a second

home, he has to go back so often. They would just store his bags for him.

Every one there was very nice and everything is set up well for people with

disabilities. They even have signs on the elevators telling people to let

the wheelchairs go first. At the entrances by the parking lots they have

literally fleets of wheelchairs lined up -- and you can leave it anywhere in

the system.

Yes, if you're going to go, you should at least call and ask for an

appointment -- you can self refer -- I did. They have a good website with

good information on it that also has the phone number. Let me know if you

want to know a place to stay. They have a good list at the site but an even

better one they'll send you. Probably the best was to go is to fly into

Minneapolis and arrange for a shuttle to take you. There are several and it

costs somewhere in the $20 range. If you fly into Rochester that one

little extra leg costs over $200 and you have a much more limited number of

places to fly in from. Listen to me. I get on this site and just natter

and natter and natter.

Well I nattered and nattered but didn't answer all your questions.

I think the insurance depends on your insurance. I'm with an HMO that

wouldn't pay since I self referred but luckily I remembered that awhile back

I thought I'd gotten a letter saying I was getting a Medicare card -- of

course it was in error, I was only 47 at the time. But I was so desperate I

called and checked and found out that if you're on Social Security

Disability after 2 years you're automatically enrolled in Medicare. Imagine

that! I even got a letter from the AARP -- now, I may feel old sometimes

with all this, but I'm not that old yet. (I think). Anyway, Medicare paid

about $7000 of the $13000 bill (rough figures). At least I think that's

right -- couldn't(and still can't) understand that Medicare paperwork!

No, they don't tell you in advance how long you'll stay but they did say the

average stay was, I think just under a week. For you it would probably be

much shorter than my month since you already have a starting point for them.

Poor things, they had me with no starting point and a bunch of different

body systems affected with weird stuff. Oh, yes, and I did have that

thyroid surgery there -- but that was only an overnight stay in the

hospital.

Well Carolyn, I'm 49 (just) and have had medicare for 3 years. I don't use

it because I have Rich's insurance which is a PPO. When I went on disability

I automatically got medicare part A (free) If I want part B then I would

have to pay for that. I quess I need to check this all out. Maybe between

the 2 it would cover it. I don't need a referal with the insurance I have, I

know it covers nation wide but not sure about Mayo. Will do my research.

Hi ! Isn't this insurance stuff wonderful? rofl (rolling on the

When I got Medicare through Social Security (like I said I think if you're

on SS disability for 2 years you're automatically enrolled in Medicare which

is how I got mine) I guess I was automatically set up with Part B too. At

least when I called and asked before I went to Mayo, since I know others

didn't have Part B unless they paid for it, the lady literally laughed and

said " what! you don't know you have Part B? "

But yes, sounds like you should check. As if it isn't enough to be sick and

to have to deal with one bureaucracy (the medical and related professions)

there's this whole 'nother set of berocracy (in some cases more than one!

If I didn't already have CFB syndrome (what? you never heard of Crispy Fried

Brain Syndrome) I'd get it for sure!!!!

too have CFB....LOL When I get the energy, I will deal with all of the

insurances. (Boy,, I better get rested up for that one!) So......Was it part

A or B that paid??????LOL

SS will let me know, if you can find someone there who knows.LOL It will

take me a while just to find out if my insurance pays. I'm in no hurry.

Hi Glenda,

Great news about you pulmonary test. Hurray!!! Next time you go see your doc

and he says don't worry about the water weight, hand him a gallon jug of

water and ask him to pack it around all day!!!! See how he likes it!

Oh, geez , you had to ask. I have all the medicare stuff in one big

pile on my floor. I tried to understand the first two but then I just gave

up. The only reason I have any idea of the figures is the Mayo Clilnic sent

me a bill that listed the total charges, what medicare paid and what I owed.

But one day -- I keep saying when I feel better but maybe I need to rethink

that -- I'll have to go through them 'cause I think there were checks iin

there from Medicare.

I THINK Part A covered the $7000 of the $1300 and tht Part B is the part I'm

getting the checks from -- something about they (Mayo, I think) doesn't

accept assignment (I THINK that is they won't limit their charges to just

the Medicare amount) so I'm responsible for that part (the $5000) but they

send me the checks for the part that Part B does cover. Does anyone have a

less CFB out there that understands Medicare -- we're all really too young

for Medicare anyway -- You have to be old and have Alz to have Medicare I

think and then someone else will figure it out for you. CFB syndrome just

doesn't make it

Anyway, I figured, I'd just pay the amount Mayo wanted me to pay and then

just cash and keep whatever checks Medicare sends. I figure if that's not

right and someone needs more money they won't hesitate to let me know. Does

this help at all?LOL
