Guest guest
Shelby, My dad had RA, and it was synovitis. He had six joint replacement surgeries: both elbows, both knees and both hips. We called him the bionic Daddy. He only had the laminectomy type surgeries you are describing once, and it didn't do him much good. By the time they got around to replacing that elbow, he had permanently lost 60% of motion in that joint. After that, he didn't wait around on laminectomies, and just had the replacement surgeries. And, as he got older, the procedures were changing and getting better, so with each surgery his recovery was quicker and the quality of his life was enhanced. In fact, he was back ballroom dancing after his last hip surgery, but unfortunately the Prednizone that he was taking masked the symptoms of an unrelated cancer, and he died within a year of them finding it. He was active right up until the end of his life, though. RA and joint problems didn't slow him down for long. He had an excellent medical team, with the best rated orthopedic surgeon on the west coast for all but one of his surgeries. They became fishing buddies after a bit. Hope this info is helpful to you. Hugs, MM
