OJ works pretty good too. I also keep Wintermint Lifesavers all over the place just in case. When I go low I eat the half sandwich, wait 30 minutes and re-test. If my BGL has went up I don't eat anything else because I know it will continue to rise slowly. The first time I went really low, 28, I panicked and ate all kinds of sugarly stuff. Like you, the next morning I was high. The really scary part is I live alone and had a hard time testing myself. Believe me, I will never take my nightime insulin again unless my reading is over 100. Anything less than that makes me hypo. Rhonda
Guest guest
This is one of the suggestion from other group: If there are no glucose tablets at hand, one of the best things to give them is cake icing. Put it under the tongue and it starts being absorbed in seconds. An old landlady I used to rent from told me her doctor told her to take a teaspoon of honey and put it under the tongue. I can tell you from personal experience that the honey does work and it gets absorbed much quicker than if one eats something, about 10 minutes as opposed to roughly 20. Hope this has helped. Guest guest
I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago, I lowered my insulin and that has helped. I felt funny, then checked it and it was 65, I ate 3 glucose tablets and a peanut butter sandwich. I waited 15 minutes and checked it again and it was in the low 50s. So I drank some OJ, ate more glucose tablets, and ate a granola bar. Then I went and laid in the floor near my kids, and I could tell that it was very low, because I could hardly move. About 15 minutes later, it was just at 50. So I know it must have been very low. It took 30 minutes to bring it up to 50. For me, a sandwich just doesn't bring it up fast enough, I have to eat some type of candy or drink a coke or OJ. I always drink something or eat a few glucose tablets, then eat a snack to keep it up. If I just drink something or eat glucose tablets, my blood sugar is back low an hour later, the snack helps keep it up. Mindy > > I had a real scare last night.
