THE most reliable indicator of hearing loss is parental observation. If

you're convinced he needs real amplification, go visit another audiologist.

It doesn't hurt anyone to do this.

>>He is getting normal results

on audiogram but on his ABR his latencies are delayed. His low frequency

hearing is down to 25 dB on ABR and high frequency is down to 30 dB. My

problem is they say this is normal based on his audiogram being ok, but the

problem with that is often with certain disorders dealing with the latencies

of the VIII nerve the audiogram is normal but the ABR is not. He does not

have AN however it is similar. Either way though he doesn't understand

anything we say. We have been hoping they would order low powered aids to

help him but they won't. They say try a store bought amplifier, but I have

and when I wear it it seems to make the sound of just tapping on a table or

something unbearably loud while other sounds not so much. Right now we are

giving up on the aids and going for an FM system. I am so frustrated with

audi's telling me that he is fine. <<

We have visited so many audiologists and have only found one that really

understands what is going on and our insurance won't accept her referal for

any equipment because she is not a contracted provider. I don't plan on

giving up any time soon though, I plan on switching his care to Phoenix

where they have a wider range of choices for audiologists.
