I just had to comment on your comment " I think his personality is being compromised a bit. " My daughter , just turned 6, and has absence seizures. Prior to starting the diet in May of 2003, she had been on AED's (zarontin, topomax, depakote, lamictal and felbatol) since the age of 18 months. We finally convinced the neuro to refer us to a clinic that supported the diet. Prior to starting the diet we weaned her from all of her Meds against our neuro's advice. Our instinct was telling us that the meds weren't doing anything for seizure control. We always got the standard answer - You don't know how many she would have without the meds. The difference in her personality now compared to when she was on meds is unbelievable. She is a lot more outgoing, more social and just such a joy. She had been on meds from such a young age that we didn't even know the real . Her teachers, friends and family have all commented on the total turn around in her personality post meds. (Esp. Topomax when she was a complete zombie. The diet hasn't helped with control either but we now have a bright, energetic little girl that is such a blessing to us. I will always be grateful that we tried the diet because it gave my husband and I the " guts " to take her off her meds. And as far as the diet being hard or strict, it was well worth the effort. The meal ideas we got from this list serv have been wonderful and has allowed to be 100% compliant and allowed us to know that we gave it our best effort. The pizza recipe and the eggbeater/oil combo for " breadlike " products has been a life saver. Beth, mom to
