Oh--we'd never have been able to get it when the kids were still home...or even a couple of years ago for that matter.

But Denny didn't owe that much on the house yet when we married and when I got the social security back pay we paid the house off.

I always tell my kids that everyone goes through the "owing" years (not that we still don't have bills, of course). Heck my parents weren't able to pay off the house until they retired. They did retire early--I think about 57 or so--but still.

Kathy, Hi, congrats on the hot tub. It will be good for both of you.I still have a dream of getting one before I die, but I am sure it won't happen until the kids are gone and the house is paid down more than it is now. My friend in MO, has one, and I am looking forward to using it when I go back on the 19th!! Hugs,MelindaPlease visit our website at:http://ACES_Autoimmune.tripod.com

Yeah, we were already saturated this year too. This is the second year in a row that we haven't had much of a summer....an awful lot of rain. Three years ago we had a drought with water restrictions, go figure.

Mom and Dad hardly got any use of their pool this summer, either.

My tomatoes rotted on the vine, my cantaloupe all fell off way before it was time to be picked. I have enough problems growing things because we have so much shade....I had the tomatoes and cantaloupe in containers out on the power line for the sun, but we hardly had any sun.

Denny shouldn't have anything to do for my upstairs remodel...except carry down the one recliner that I'm getting rid of. The rest is painting, making draperies, and furniture placement....oh and reupholstering one old platform rocker.

Then will come the bathroom up there...I'm not sure what I'm doing with that, except for retiling the floor. The tub is a hideous bright blue...almost turqoisey...that doesn't go with anything else and is really overwhelming in so small a room. I'll worry about that when the rest is done. I am finished with the attic and have about half of what is now the den but will be the bedroom sorted through. Next will be the painting. It can take me as long as I need to pace myself because they don't get used often. If the boys spend the night and it isn't ready enough to sleep in, they use sleeping bags on the great room floor.

Re: Kathy

Thanks, Kathy.Actually, is pretty good about redecorating; it was justthe thought of another major project. :) I do a lot of itmyself, too; which, I think is part of the problem -- HE does theironing; and he's just thinking about all the fabric he's goingto have to iron whilst I sew new drapes, pillows, etc. Also, about all the driving around associated with shopping FOR thefabric, rugs, etc. He also knows I want some of the tablesrefinished; that's a lot of work for him.The first project is finding a rug for the living room. The tileis much easier to keep clean than the carpeting -- good for theasthma -- and MUCH better as a walking surface for my stumblingfeet. However, that vast, vast expanse of tile just needs to bebroken up a tad. And, because I am so very picky, it's probablygoing to take a while to find just what I want. Then, comes the great re-upholster vs. buy-new decision for theLR furniture. The sofa / loveseat / chair I currently have arevery good pieces with excellent construction; but, they're 20years old and really starting to show the wear. So, I eitherneed to get them recovered or get new ones.Fortunately, the custom table for the DR, and the reframing ofvarious pictures is Sombody Else's Problem. He's got a lot oflamp rewiring to do, though. We were already a federal disaster area before the hurricaineshit. We've gotten three FEET more rain this summer than normal. The ground is so saturated that new rainfall has nowhere to go. Even an inch of rain these days causes everything to flood. And,then, of course between the crops getting flooded out and thebees not flying because it was raining, there have been massivecrop failures. Very poor cherries -- that molded on the trees. No apricots; almost no peaches / nectarines. Pears and applesdid OK because we had a dry week the week they were blooming. The white grape crop is almost a total loss . . . which reallyhurts the wineries; red grapes are OK, but very low in sugar. Don't even think 'tomato'; this is the first year I've not hadANY to speak of. It's OCTOBER, and they're just starting to getthe root crops and fall brassicas. Oh well, climate is what youexpect; weather is what you get.Owens> Chris! Finally!
