Guest guest
I am so sorry to here about all the troubles. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending you a HUGE HUG. Horsley Whats been going on with Miranda...... I just wanted to send you all an update with whats been going on with Miranda. She was admitted to the hospital on April 7th for a J tube placemment. Everything appeared to go great. She was awake and talking to us soon after the surgery. The next day she was very uncomfortable and venting from her Gtube what appeared to be stool. She also started to throw it up. She was sent on the 9th for an upper GI and was found to have an obstruction. She was sent back to the OR and they found her bowel very dialated and it seemed as though the tube was causing the obstuction. They placed a much smaller tube ( 8 french foley) and things seemed to be okay again. By the next day she was running temps ranging from 102 to 106 and was in terrible pain. By Friday the 11th her stomach was very distended. She was retaining the IV fliuds they were pumping into her and her whole little body was bloated. It was determined she again needed to be taken to the OR to see what was going on. She was rushed in and they found she had a perferation now in her bowel and had peritonitos. THe surgeon said when they opened her she was a mess. She had waste all the way to pelvic cavity. She was so very sick at this point and was moved to the PICU. We were all scared to death we were going to lose her. They put her on 5 different IV antibiotics. They inserted a duel femeral line in surgery as well as she was using her mediport. She is doing some better today but she is still in the hospital. She continues to run temps ranging from 100 to 102.6. Her hemoglobin is low (7.3) and she is getting Epogen shots and we are hoping that will help improve that. One of our biggest problems now is feeding. They had to remove the J tube, which was intended for feeding. She is tollerating NOTHING through her G tube at this time. She has been on TPN since 11th. Yesterday they inserted another G-J tube and we are trying some slow J feeds. She still continues to gag and wretch and does throw up. She is still in alot of pain and still is getting Morphine. The incision was draining a terrible amount of fluid so they had to reopen that and that has to be cleaned and packed three times a day, which about takes MIranda over the edge. They said that her intestines had ulcers all inside them and they dont know why. She also has an increased number of eosinophils but I am not sure what that means either. They switched her formula to Neocate one plus.So thats where we are at this point. I have no idea how much longer we will be here or what the next plan is at this point. I will try to update again when I can. Please contact mito-owner with any problems or questions.
