Hi Layci, first of all I'm sorry for your loss and good luck with ttc again!

Usually with the home pg tests, the chances of a false negative are pretty high

until a day or two after your expected period. First of all, since spontaneous

ovulation is new for you, it may not be occuring at day14. I've had a lot of

inconsistent cycles, between 26 and 40 days, so you can't predict when to take a

pg test very well. And if your hcg levels are climbing slowly (which is

possible given your sister's experience), it could explain the negative tests.

I'm surprised your dr wants to wait 2 weeks, that is a LONG time for those of us

who have experienced loss!!!! Personally, I'd call her back and ask for a beta

test right away, it's only a blood test, easy to do for your peace of mind!!!

I've taken the medication to force a period but was a long time ago so I forget

the name of it... I really HATED it, I had such a bad emotional reaction.

Without fail, 10 minutes after taking each pill (for 10 looooong days), I would

be in a (literally) screaming rage ... it would pass after 20-30 minutes but it

was awful. Probably not everyone reacts that strongly (like insane PMS), but

just in case, I'd advise taking the pill when you don't have anything else to do

for a while so you can kick back and get away from people for a little while ...

I was so dumb, I took it every morning while trying to get ready for work

(duh!)...

Hi Layci,

Sorry that your body is out of whack. I know that it can be

frustrating. I just wanted to comment about your dr doing the blood

test in 2 weeks. She SHOULD have told you not to ttc during those 2

weeks just in case you ovulate during that time. The premise is that

if you were pg, the pg could be detected by a blood test in 2 weeks.

But in order for this assumption to be true, you should also abstain

from ttc. If you were to ovulate during those 2 weeks and you got pg

(say only a few days before the blood test), the blood test might not

be able to detect the pg yet and then when you take the progesterone

and AF starts, an early pg would be lost.

Hope that things get back on track for you,

Sara

> I don't want to butt heads with anyone, but what you are saying is

not true (at least it wasn't in my case). The dr told me that he

could give me a shot of progesterone without taking a pg test because

the progesterone would HELP not hurt. In the case of provera (pills)

he would have made me take a pg test prior. The dr gave me the shot

of progesterone and AF did not arrive within 7-14 days like he said.

So, they gave me a pg test then and it was positive (I had only

ovulated about 3 days prior to getting the shot, but didn't know

it).

I just want to clarify that we are both speaking about progesterone.

Provera is the shot (also known as depo-provera and gesterol) and the

oral capsule is Prometrium...all of these drugs is basically

progesterone given by a different route of administration. I'm no

pharmacokineticist, but I thought that their indication was basically

the same. I have looked at both labels and don't know what to make

of the warnings to not be used during pg in light of the fact that

your dr told you that the progesterone would help. I know that it

helps in the case of an early pg with low progesterone, but didn't

think that they gave it without confirm

From my own experience I have used prometrium to help sustain a pg

(after a ++ hcg I was found to have borderline progesterone levels)

and also to make AF come (twice - once after a cancelled IF cycle and

later after the birth of dd when AF would not return). So, it has

helped me for two opposite scenarios. I don't mean to confuse people

but my dr had told me not to ttc the 2 weeks prior to the blood test

so that the pg test would be accurate when we took it. She did not

want me to be get pg and have it be too early to detect the pg and

then start taking progesterone (as happened in your situation).

Maybe this another one of those situations where each dr has a

different opinion? Anyone else have any experiences to add?

Well, thank you all for the information, but it doesn't matter

anyway because AF finally came on Saturday. My doctor had told me to

sustain from having sex during those 2 weeks before I was to have

the blood test done, but at least now I know that I am NOT pregnant

and that my cycle is working on it's own. This cycle lasted 38 days

and last cycle was 31 days, therefore, that is the reason I thought

I could possibly be pregnant. My cycles are NEVER on time and it's

really hard for me to predict when AF will come. My doctor wants me

to do an ovulation kit again this month and try it the natural way

so hopefully I will not have to be on any drug at all! I got

pregnant by taking clomid with my little girl and it sure would be

nice not to have to take drugs to get pregnant again. My due date of

May 19th for my little girl is fast approaching and it's getting

harder everyday to not think about how I would be feeling and

looking at this time. It's been 4 months now since I lost her and

I'm soooo ready to be pregnant again. Please keep your fingers

crossed for me!

Thanks,

I THINK it is because if you are not pregnant, you will have a period when you

STOP taking the Prometrium.

i'm not sure but that rings a bell... I know my period didn't start until a few

days after I finished the pills...

I forget, are you taking basal temps and charting your cycle? My cycles were

really inconsistent and it helped a lot to chart ... also, I took Vitex (it's an

herb) to help regulate my cycle and it really works :)

That must be very hard to have unpredictable cycles. Even with

predictable ones it's full of having your hopes up and down, it must

be even more so when you are not sure if you are pg or your body is

playing games on you.

Layci, I'm hoping that you get lucky soon. I'm sure you have

suffered a lot of grief over these 4 months and I know how horrible

that due date as it approaches. I'll keep you in my thoughts and

send you TONS of babydust, ok?
