Guest guest
Hi folk, It has been awhile since I posted. I have a little guy that is 22 months old with Complex II deficiency. We carbo load him every night. He gets 150 mg CoQ10, 7.5 mg Carnitine, and a daily multi vit. (The coq and carnitine he gets throughout the day. The amount is just how much get gets daily.) The GP called today to say he wants me to start Spency on Biotin, Vit B7. He said some of Spencys symptoms were indicative of Biotin deficiency. The body uses Biotin to help the enzymes to their job more efficiently. I did some reading on this and it sounded right to me, too, as something that could help. This does not negate the mito dx. But rather an effort to give Spency something that would help him. Kass, did some searches to find the dosage at 2.5 mg - 10 mg per day. Start at the lower dose and work up. Thanks, Kass. Have any of you have tried Biotin for you or your children? Did it help? How much did you use? Thanks, Bec
Guest guest
Bec, I have to apologize that I mistakenly thought you were talking about a daughter and it is a son you have with the problems. Sorry! Also, I also thought that as they tell us, water soluble nutrients cannot cause build-up problems. Yet, the B vitamins are water soluble and indeed, because they can not finish being metabolized in my families bodies, they DO become toxic to US. People who have a genetic defect that stops a nutrient from being processed on through in a natural normal metabolic route will have negative effects from taking that nutrient, water soluble or not-period! All that water soluble means is that PEOPLE WHO CAN METABOLIZE AN ITEM IN A NORMAL MANNER will not have it build up in their systems. They will spill any extra that their bodies cannot use out. I guess you could compare that to water passing thru a damn. If the damn is normal or OK or works like it should, then when there is too much water behind the damn, the gates will open and spill the extra on thru allowing the river to run like it would even without the damn being there. But man (or in the body case, God) made a way for the river to be stopped at a point so that the water (or in the body case, nutrients) could be used for power. Sometimes, there is a block in the damn and for some reason the water can't spill over and then the damn breaks and all hell breaks loose-flooding........ In the body case, there is a defect causing a block in the genes making the enzymes that break down and rebuild the nutrients we intake into new things (cells, energy for the cells, etc.) Then all hell breaks loose in our bodies-negative effects of the build up of the nutrients we take in: no energy, inability of our nerves to transmit signals, cell walls not working properly, etc........... I hope this makes sense. I'm hurrying to go to my post-op back surgery appt. So ask or comment or disagree all anyone wants. I know I'm not always right or clear If you want to Bec, feel free to print this out and ask your Dr. what he thinks. Scoggins Re: Biotin ??s - mito cocktail >, > >Thank you for your input.
