insuring conversion van costs

We just purchased an '08 Dodge Caravan SE with Braun entervan conversion. It

has 2 automatic side doors, an automatic fold out side door. That side actually

lowers down, kneeling. Basically I drive in my scooter, get off, and walk to

the driver's side and sit in that seat. I do not require a transfer seat or

hand brakes as yet. The conversion cost was $21,000. My question is how much

should I insure that for? I was astonished at what my insurance co. quoted me.

Any advice?

I don't know what insurance company you use, when I traded my 01 Camry in on an

05 Prius, my monthly insurance premium went up by $20. But, the Prius would

cost more to replace, so it's something I expected.

Depending upon where you live, if you are still making payments on the van, you

would have to have full coverage insurance anyway. A conversion of any kind

will make the van more expensive to replace. Maybe you can get your monthly

premiums at an amount that you find reasonable, by just raising your deductible?

Otherwise, call other insurance companies to see what kind of offers you can get

from them, if you find an offer that you like, then bring it back to your

insurance company and see if they will be willing to negotiate.

My insurance company gives me a discount because I have renter's insurance as

well. I took the AARP driver safety online program and got another small

discount, which should go into effect at my next renewal period in November.
