Second WALK F.A.R. for NAAR Marches to Buffalo to Support Autism Research

Event Scheduled for 1:00 PM at Delaware Park (off Parkside Avenue near 198)

You are invited to attend the second “Buffalo Niagara WALK F.A.R. for NAAR,”

where over 3,500 people touched by autism, including the families and friends of

people with autism and other concerned local citizens, will join together to

raise funds for autism research. All proceeds from the event benefit the

National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR), whose primary mission is to fund

and accelerate biomedical research that seek to find the causes, prevention,

treatment and, ultimately, a cure for the autism spectrum disorders.

WHO: Over 3,500 families and friends of people with autism in the

greater Western New York (Buffalo) area along with Pellegrino, host of Ch.

7’s “AM Buffalo” and Sam Hoyt, D-NYS Assemblyman. Live entertainment by The

Jerry Andress Band, The Hill Brothers, Pam Ryder, Rawe, plus family fun (clowns,

bouncy houses, rock climbing wall). Food, and refreshments will be provided

after the walk! The Buffalo Jills will be there to cheer all the walkers!

WHAT: Buffalo Niagara WALK F.A.R. for NAAR, the National Alliance for

Autism Research’s signature fundraising and autism awareness event. Last year,

over 3,300 people in the Western New York area raised $100,000 at the inaugural

walk on September 29. This nationwide walkathon program is the first and only

of its kind exclusively dedicated to autism research. Last year, WALK F.A.R.

for NAAR events held throughout the country helped NAAR award more than $8

million in grants funding autism research projects.

WHERE: Delaware Park – Parkside Lodge area; Walk takes place along Ring

Road inside Delaware Park (near Rt. 198 and Parkside Ave).

WHEN: Sunday, September 14, 2003 - 11:00 AM Registration;

5K Walk Begins at 1:00 PM

WHY: Autism affects more than one million people in the United States

alone and occurs an estimated one in every 150 children, making it the second

most common developmental disability. There is currently no treatment or cure

for autism and little definitive research about the disorder, which underscores

the importance of collaborative efforts to understand autism.
