Guest guest Posted February 5, 2004 Report Share Posted February 5, 2004 Hi Jocelyn, my specialist did tests and he basically came to the conclusion that when the egg was trying to attach itself to this wall I've got running down the middle of me and because there is not a good blood supply in this wall, which I think is tissue, the egg is dying off.He seems to think that once it attaches itself to the proper lining, I should be ok. My first m/c was at 7 weeks so it did attach itself, but there was something wrong with it.Does this sound right to you?I'm not very good at things like this.I'm not good at understanding the female reproductive but I'm learning alot with help from people like you. Your story sounds somewhat similar to mine and I am scared. I am now 20 weeks and 5 days. I have PCOS and do not ovulate, so after much treatment we conceived through IVF. From an HSG I had done several years ago my infertility doctor saw that my uterus is heart shaped and say I may have a BU or SU. He said it was hard to tell. His main goal was to get me pregnant and he didn't even make me think my uterus was a problem. The only time he said it may be a problem was during implantation if the embryo tried to implant on the septum wall, if it is an SU. I have had many US during the pregnancy as at 7 weeks I had a blood clot in my uterus, so I was monitored closely. During the early on US we saw the uterus was definitely heart shaped and my ob was concerned and wanted us to watch it closely throughout the pregnancy. Then at week 17 I was referred to a peri for a level 2 and he said everything was perfect. He said he couldn't see anything wrong with my uterus. So with the blood clot having gone he declared me and baby fine and I was a normal pregnancy. Only 2 weeks prior I had been in the ER with massive pains from contractions and they gave me an US and actually wrote on the report that I had a SU. When I went back to my ob and discussed both of these reports he scoffed at the ER report and said that is ER - what do they know type of thing! Then he said that maybe the SU has gone! He basically concluded that if the peri was happy then he was too and even suggested we could go snow ski-ing for our vacation! He is a really nice man but I have to wonder. I have discussed all my worries with my husband and he says even if they have overlooked my BU/SU - what could they do anyhow? Basically I am asking if something does go wrong and I deliver prematurely isn't this just how it is? Is there anything the doctors could have done for you to prevent your delivery at 24 weeks? If there is something they could have done then that is a different story. With hearing your story and knowing what people have said on this group I feel worried that they are dismissing my uterus problem - but my question is what would they be doing differently if they were dealing with me if they knew I had a BU/SU for sure? Gosh, I think this message sounds jumbled but I am getting really panicked and nervous here especially when I hear such heartbreaking stories. Things were going pretty good for me until I woke up January 17 and found that I was having contractions. What I have learned so far, is that pre-term labor and an incompetent cervix are very much associated with a bicornuate uterus. I've also found that if your doctor is knowledgable about the subject, then he can look for signs of PTL and possibly give you a cerclage. I feel like I'm learning to late, but in learning, it is giving me hope for the future. Please take care of yourself. If you have any problem, no matter how small you think it is, follow up ASAP. Also, if you feel your doctor is not taking you seriously, find a different one who does. I feel like my son could have lived if my doctor had taken me and the information that he had been given seriously. I'm getting use to the idea that my son is never coming home. However, my due date is coming, May 7, 2004, so emotions are running very high and I need answers. Take care and Good Luck!! During this pregnancy, nobody mentioned a bicornuate uterus. With her, they told me that I had HELPP syndrom. However, she was far enough along to survive. I feel really bad that I am learing more about the bicornuate uterus after the fact. My doctor, in my opinion, didn't believe that I had a bicornuate uterus. He treated me like a normal pregnancy, even with him knowing of the HELPP syndrom and the information about the BU. I had even told him that the reason I hadn't gotton pregnant since my daughter, until this baby, was because the doctor who delivered my daughter said I'd be high risk. During my pregnancy, I didn't know to ask for a cerclage or even that there were specialist, Perinatologist, for people considered high risk. However, I'm doing my research now, and I hope to find some answers to why my son is no longer with me. Thank you!!!
