Guest guest
Give Kucinich a chance, I think this will be something he won't be afraid to take on. Jo reported that his was a fantastic speech. Yes, he has a lot of issues on his website, but there are alot of issues that a candidate is asked to address, but what other presidential candidate has added this one? He has responded to this community not because he think it will get him donations, but because as usual, it fits with his distrust of corporate America and is not afraid of the issue. Coming to the press conference is a BIG DEAL, when, as someone else has noted, this will ensure no pharmaceutical dollars. I suspect you don't like some of his other stances, so be it, but at least he's got principled, controversial stances rather than pandering to the money. What other candidate would advocate a Dept of peace? Kucinich has a long, long record that I've paid attention to, (and I'm not from Ohio, but I've always followed the news closely, and I just remember him as the " boy Mayor " who took on the monied interests, stood his ground and paid a dear price for it and never regretted it) I don't know him personally, but I do know that if he jumps on this issue, he will bring attention to it, his speeches are the best I've ever heard and I predict he is the " sleeper " candidate in this election because he is quietly building a mass base. I don't expect that the autism-affected community would support him, but what if we COULD get behind a candidate, get politically involved and give our support to a candidate that at least is willing to back our issue and bring it to light? I think we lose sight of the power in our hands, and of course, as we struggle to have the time just to make our children's life better and argue amongst ourselves, the bastards who rule the world are laughing at us, all the way to the bank. Guest guest
All I know about Kucinich besides his speech is that he is a politician. I would never trust any politician unless they put it in writing. All politicians can make speeches and will do so on any subject and on any side of an issue if it gets them publicity. Because, the only thing any politician ever really cares about is votes. I would be more apt to trust a rattlesnake. > > > I am very angry at the interests that caused me to have a mercury- > > > toxic system does not blind me to the fact that this is a very > > > complex issue. Guest guest
Yes, everybody panders to get votes, but Kucinich coming out at that autism press conference is not pandering for votes. Candidates get elected these days by pandering for money at the outset of campaigns. Then they try to speak to the middle of the road voter, that's what has happened to all the candidates. This is not what Kucinich has done. He advocated a Dept of Peace when voters were 80% in support of the war in Iraq. So please explain that as politics as usual. > > > > I am very angry at the interests that caused me to have a > mercury- > > > > toxic system does not blind me to the fact that this is a very > > > > complex issue. Guest guest
I'll explain it as simply as I can. NEVER trust a politician!!! If you disagree with that statement, you are free to live your life as a sheep and I hope you are very happy. Politicians are the scum of the earth and anyone that does does not know this to be a fact should just scream to the world: " Lead me to slaughter " . > > > > > I am very angry at the interests that caused me to have a > > mercury- > > > > > toxic system does not blind me to the fact that this is a > very > > > > > complex issue. Guest guest
And then there are people like Dan Burton that come along. Dan Burton has put his career on the line for all of us many times. There are alot of corrupt politicians, Doctors, Lawyers, Preachers, Teachers etc... does that mean that every person in each of these occupations is scum. In addition, just because a person might happen to disagree with you doesn't make them a sheep. Some of us just know how to think for ourselves and we look at each person as an individual. I, for one, am not about to go to the slaughter without a fight. There are good people left in politics, it's our job to continue to fight the one's that aren't and support the ones that are. By the way, what occupation are you involved with? I hope there are no " scum of the earth " involved in the work that YOU do! I thought this list was about discussing treatments and ideas, not about being a bunch of " clones " that all go aroung chanting the same mantras! Is it never ok to disagree? Or will those who try to disagree be looked at as part of the " herd " . Best Jr wrote: > I'll explain it as simply as I can. NEVER trust a politician!!! Guest guest
I was trying to stay out of this " Political Fray " , but I have to voice my views. Dennis " The Menace " Kucinich, is a phony. He will change direction faster than the wind in Ocotober in the North East. Did you see him on 'Hardball' last week. Here is part of the transcript. Remember, " The Menace " was against abortion. s Skewers Kucinich on Hardball over Abortion Flip MSNBC ^ | July 16, 2003 | nwrep Posted on 07/17/2003 9:16 AM EDT by nwrep Partial Transcript MATTHEWS: Let's come back and talk more about near and present dangers and nuclear threats and also about Congressman Kucinich's campaign for president. And questions of which people should be put on the Supreme Court. You're watching HARDBALL. (COMMERCIAL BREAK) MATTHEWS: We're back with more " Political Buzz " with Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, who's running for president, and Duncan Hunter. Here's the Congressman Kucinich earlier today addressing the Human Rights Campaign, a gay and lesbian political advocacy group.. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) KUCINICH: I would nominate any gay to the Supreme Court, or lesbian or bisexual or transgendered person to the Supreme Court, as long as they were ready to uphold Roe v. Wade. (END VIDEO CLIP) MATTHEWS: What are we to make of that, Congressman Kucinich, statement? KUCINICH: You're to make of it that equality before the law is an essential and cardinal principle of our government. And in addition to that, women in our society will never truly have equality if Roe v. Wade is repealed, and so I'm take a stand of behalf of equality for everyone. MATTHEWS: But it just looks like the most patent kind of pandering. You're saying the only issue that matters to you in terms of picking a Supreme Court justice, in terms of the person's background, the only issue that matters to you is an issue on which you took a 180 degree different position throughout your career. In other words, you will only accept judges on the Supreme Court who totally disagreed with you your entire life until recently when you decided to run for president and go national. KUCINICH: Actually, what I'm saying here is that I believe that upholding Roe v. Wade... MATTHEWS: But you were always against it. Now you're for it and saying if a judge is against it, they can be gay, straight, transgender, whatever, as long as they agree with you this instant and they didn't agree with you your whole career. It looks like pandering and it looks like, I don't know what. Hypocrisy of the worst kind. But go ahead. Explain it. KUCINICH: OK. Thanks, Chris. I think criminalization of abortion would set this country back. MATTHEWS: Who is proposing criminalization of abortion? KUCINICH: Actually, Congress has been increasingly moving in the direction. MATTHEWS: Who supports criminal punishments for abortion. KUCINICH: Congress has been increasingly moving in the direction towards criminalization. MATTHEWS: Name a U.S. congressperson. KUCINICH: It's a fact. MATTHEWS: Name a Congressperson who supports putting people in jail for having an abortion. Name one. KUCINICH: Trent Lott, at the beginning of this Congress, stated that it was the number one agenda for his, the legislative agenda to move forward to make abortion illegal. MATTHEWS: No, you said to put them in jail, to criminalize abortion. Name a member of Congress who wants to-name any member of Congress in either party who says put a person in jail for having an abortion. Name one. KUCINICH: I campaigned for Congress in 1996 against an opponent who was backing a constitutional amendment to make abortion illegal. And what I'm saying that it's important in this country- MATTHEWS: You didn't say that. You said criminalize it. You said put a person in jail for having an abortion. Do you believe any member of Congress wants to do that? KUCINICH: Well, I think there are members of Congress who want to do that. That's absolutely right. MATTHEWS: Name one. KUCINICH: This isn't about naming one. MATTHEWS: Name one. Name one. KUCINICH: I think would support it. I do... MATTHEWS: He would. Well, that's a nice subjective move, but you don't have his testimony supporting it. We'll check with him on that. I think it's a rotten thing to say. Let's go on... KUCINICH: What's a rotten thing to say? MATTHEWS: To say that somebody in Congress wants to put a woman in jail for having an abortion when you don't even know their name. KUCINICH: Well, you asked me to... MATTHEWS: Name one. KUCINICH: You asked me to who would be responsible and take that kind of a position. And I think has had a strong position all of his life on it, and I think he's probably be.. MATTHEWS: You're desperate. Let's move on here. Congressman Hunter, let me ask you a serious question because you're a serious man. This was not a serious conversation. Let me ask you about North Korea. Are you worried about Bill , the former defense secretary's concerns about nuclear war coming from North Korea? Don't waste your vote........! Guest guest
Kelley; I own a business, It's a crumby business, nothing to get excited about and it keeps a roof over my kids heads. And yes, ALL politicians are the scum of the earth. Dan Burton would not be giving any support to the autism community if he did not have a personal stake in it. That, unfortunately, is the nature of politics. Those of us who bother to vote are very naive. This is why I am adamant about us getting ourselves published in major daily newspapers. Public opinion will tell polioticians what to do. If you can learn anything here, learen this simple fact as it is undisputable: Politicians will do whatever is necessary to gain the votes they need. I don't know how old you are or how many times you have been lied to by a politician. The one thing politicians are experts at is lying. The one thing they could never do is beat me in a poker game because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are all liars and they could never bluff me because I have learned in fifty years of being screwed by them that they just don't give a damn about anything but their bank acounts. I'm old enough to know better. And, Kelley, I am only knocking politicians. Please don't put words in my mouth by accusing me of knocking other more reputable professions. Guest guest
So, I suppose none of us should vote? Just think for a minute of what you are suggesting here. You are suggesting there is no democracy and that it isn't possible if you suggest that there isn't a possibility for politicians to be other than scum. As bad as things are, I could never get this cynical and inward-looking. And because I am an historian, I also have found that the voice of the people can make a difference, but I also know that the last 25 years have made many people the most cynical U.S. public in history. This is historically framed, not an essential part of politics in this country. I'm glad to be in a profession whose purpose is to expose the truth of the past, and that truth is that not all politicians have been, or are scum. Money has corrupted our system, but it hasn't always been at the root of the politics of all people. People are fallible, but it is your type of thinking that disempowers us. And yes, it's those " naive " people who believe in change, who have in the past brought about that change. Sorry for the lecture, but geez, you brought it on yourself... > > > > > > > > I am very angry at the interests that caused me to have > a > > > > > mercury- > > > > > > > > toxic system does not blind me to the fact that this is > a > > > > very > > > > > > > > complex issue. Guest guest
And this is why I don't watch TV. I could skewer Mathews ties to corporate America and his funding from the far right, he's no credible reporter in my estimation. (www.cursor.org) I can tell s nor you are really interested in what Kucinich thinks or what motivated him to move to a different stance on this issue. What kind of reporting or reasoned dialogue is this? It's the kind of horseshit that makes me turn off the TV. It makes great gladiator style that ensures that the media sells product, that's all. Kucinich has my vote and my money already. Like Jo, because of his stance on the autism treatment, I've also decided today to campaign for him with the time I have left over from not watching this sort of crap. Although I agree with that no politician can be trusted or is completely honest, it means that we have to research every candidate carefully and put someone in office who from my standpoint will be willing to support our issues. Every single candidate is going to have skeletons in the closet and is going to tell you what you want to hear but the ones who stand out are the ones who will take on the tough issues. Kucinich didn't have to take on this issue, it was probably his downfall like it has been for Burton but he did it anyway. He will be a target and the drug companies will do anything they can to make him look bad in the media. I didn't see any of the other candidates at any of our rallies or this press conference but him. That says a lot to me. Guest guest
Lecture away Rose. The public gave us Clinton and W. Need I say more. The last presidential candidate I voted for was Tom Laughlin (the guy who played Jack in the movie). Do you think he had a chance without graft from big corporations? We get two choices, Dem or Rep, which equals PAC owned scum or Pac owned scum. If Henry were with us today, he'd again be screaming no taxation without representation because that is our plight. Us common people have no representation. It's just a joke. > > > > > > > > > I am very angry at the interests that caused me to > have > > a > > > > > > mercury- > > > > > > > > > toxic system does not blind me to the fact that this > is > > a > > > > > very > > > > > > > > > complex issue. Guest guest
, I wasn't saying that you are knocking all of those businesses! What I was saying is that there is corruption in ALL areas of this society, and just because that is true it does not make ALL doctors, lawyers, businessmen, politicians corrupt. Yes, Dan Burton does have a personal interest... He's seen his grandchild TAKEN from him by Autism. Sometimes it takes a PERSONAL TRAGEDY to move us to do something about a wrong situation. As far as getting published in daily newspapers, I wonder how many newspapers would be willing to print your first e-mail? You basically stated that those who don't agree with you are " sheep " . At any rate, this bantering back and forth is not real intelligent and I'm going to move on. I wasn't trying to " put words in your mouth " I was simply trying to point out that everyone that does not hold to your viewpoints on politics is a " sheep " to be led to slaughter. It was not my intention to put you on the defenisive. Best Jr wrote: > Kelley; I own a business, It's a crumby business, nothing to get > excited about and it keeps a roof over my kids heads.
