So why can I start with a BG of +/- 120, eat a low carb meal, and have a BG

of around 100 2 hours later? This is happening over and over again.

I do believe this must be reactive hypoglycemia at play, and therefore the

low carb meal DOES INDEED push my BG down.

COmments correcting or challenging my thinking are appreciated.

A low carb meal doesn't " push down " the BS. What a low carb meal does is

not RAISE the BS as high as a high glycemic carb will. Think of it this

way, if you check the temperature in the winter, the mercury in a

thermometer will be about 35 degrees (in South Carolina at least). Yet,

check that same thermometer in August and it will be 95 degrees. The winter

cool didn't " push down " the mercury. It just didn't raise it as well the

summer heat did. Same thing with low carb meals. Low carb meals will raise

the BS, but not like a meal with potatoes & bread. With a low carb meal, I

can get a reading of 95 while adding bread or potatoes to that same meal

will raise my BS to 150+

Hypoglycemia is not " around 100 " . Hypoglycemia is below 70. Some people start

having hypoglycemia symptoms prior to having a blood sugar of 70 IF their blood

sugar has experienced a large drop. For example, a person with a blood glucose

dropping from 170 to 90 mg/dl could experience hypoglycemia symptoms, EVEN

THOUGH their blood glucose is not low enough to be called hypoglycemic.

Eating low carbs does not cause hypoglycemia. It is a preventative measure

against hyperglycemia.

Unless you are completely paralyzed there must be SOMETHING you can do.

Just moving around is a form of 'exercise.'

There isn't any exercise you can do even if in a wheel chair? I know there are

exercises you can do even laying in bed, however if it is a breathing problem

then that might be different.

What was your fasting Bg's when you were diagnosed and your A1c test???

I never suggested it was. I said that if I start with 120 BG, and then I eat

PROTEIN, that it pushes my BG down to +/- 100.

That is a typically accepted hypoglycemic range.

Exactly. Certain tests rate it this way: 'Hypoglycemic " is is where one

who's blood sugar drops 20 or more points below fasting level in the course

of a 6 hour glucose tolerance test, or 100 or more points total.

In my case, the last time I did a bonafide test (4 years ago), my BG dropped

51 points form fasting levels and 176 points from the higest point.

Of course, I did this test back when I used to drink a lot of wine several

times a week, (I never drink anymore) but I can now understand why I got

into this rhythm of binging on sweets every afternoon over the last year,

and why I have to eat diabetically. It is likley the only way for me :-)
