Guest guest
Rose, I totally know where you are coming from. I HATE holidays. When I was offered my job which is weekends and holidays, I jumped on it. There are people in my extended family that I find repulsing and it makes me physically ill to be around them. I also hate gift giving. No one appreciates anything anymore, especially kids. I have so much fun at work on the holidays. We watch movies, talk and eat--well I try to. Tomorrow at work they are serving cornish game hens and the fixings--I get my meal free as an employee. It's said that I have more fun working then I would with my family. It's so hard to be merry when you feel like crap. I hope you'll find some joy in your holiday. I know I certainly find joy when I get things done around the house. Happy Holidays, Angel > tonight we spend x-mas together...there's just the 3 > of us in my family...i was just not up to making > dinner, plus i couldn't afford to buy all the stuff, > so there ordering out...yup, guess who won't be eating > tonight, except for a little piece of the lemon/lime > cheese cake i bought for them and a carton of fat free > eggnog...my son just got home awhile ago and it > started, the arguing, the stress, the tears, my > tummy...can't wait till tomorrow and i'll be alone > (better than it sounds) got tons to do around the > house, gonna try to put a dent in that...i know you > guys understand, being sick so long and so much, > nothing gets done and for me no one else is gonna do > it, so i have to take the time i'm on holiday and > should be relaxing to try and get some of it done, but > i'm gonna take some me time and have a nice long hot > bath and make a nice meal for myself...for now i need > to go cry alittle more and then all will be all right > > May this year's holiday find you and your familys in > the greatest of spirits, better health and with an > unending string of opportunities to bring joy to one > anothers lives. > > WISHING YA'LL HAVE A PAINFREE AND JOYFULL MERRY CHRISTMASS > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
have a great day at work...my christmas eve ended up turning out all right...but i'm gonna pay for it, they got chinies and i couldn't resist, its been so long since i had that, so i pigged out, i mean really pigged out...besides a big plate of assorted stuff, 2 big glasses of skim milk, a big piece of cheese cake and a whole carton of no fat eggnog LOL...it took me quite awhile to eat it all, i seem to eat so slowly these days...hopefully my tummy will spare me and not cause me too much pain, but damn it was worth it...oh and because i'm so broke these days, my son got the cheepest (in price) presents he has ever gotton, spent about a hundred, i usually spend way too much, last year was a almost 2 grand 8 track digital recorder, so his band can start recording there stuff, mixing it and making cd's...but this year he was total pleased and very thankfull...sometimes they just astonish you --- mynameis_Angel wrote: > Rose, > > I totally know where you are coming from. Guest guest
Rose, Like Angel, I like working the holiday's. Well maybe not Christmas. But I will purposely work mothers day so I do not have to be with my mother. Don't get me wrong, she is very loving and concerned about me. But it is at a point where it is getting on my nerves. She can be very self centered. My sister is here from Ohio, and I am going out with her on the 26th. I have had a rotten couple of days and her comment was, " you can't be sick on Christmas " , like I have control over it. My mom was more concerned that was going out, not if I felt well.Do not fell alone about not having money. I have not recieved my disability check yet.My husband usually get two check at christmas because his office is closed for two weeks. Well this year he only gets one. Of all years for them to only get one. $40.00 in bank until someone gets a check. We are also celebrating two birthdays today. My mom ask if I got them gifts. NO. I was more concerned that my kids got their gifts, and we could eat. I could not even fill stocking for my kids. My husband and I are not even exchanging gifts. And she wants to know if I got them gifts. I am blessed with kids and a husband who are very understanding. I feel horrible because my health ruins many things and this year it is their Christmas. I just have to remember that beyond the arguing (yes we have many of them), the frustration of me being sick, and a mother who is very self centered, is that my health and sanity has to come first. If I can not go out with my sister, so be it. I have to make the best of what I have. Well enough complaining from me. But thanks it felt good to get out what has been bothering me. I hope your have a very merry Christmas, and a pain free one. I know I plan on not letting my mother get to me. And if she does, I will just take a pain pill and zone out. Cheryl > tonight we spend x-mas together...there's just the 3 > of us in my family...i was just not up to making > dinner, plus i couldn't afford to buy all the stuff, > so there ordering out...yup, guess who won't be eating > tonight, except for a little piece of the lemon/lime > cheese cake i bought for them and a carton of fat free > eggnog...my son just got home awhile ago and it > started, the arguing, the stress, the tears, my > tummy...can't wait till tomorrow and i'll be alone > (better than it sounds) got tons to do around the > house, gonna try to put a dent in that...i know you > guys understand, being sick so long and so much, > nothing gets done and for me no one else is gonna do > it, so i have to take the time i'm on holiday and > should be relaxing to try and get some of it done, but > i'm gonna take some me time and have a nice long hot > bath and make a nice meal for myself...for now i need > to go cry alittle more and then all will be all right > > May this year's holiday find you and your familys in > the greatest of spirits, better health and with an > unending string of opportunities to bring joy to one > anothers lives. > > WISHING YA'LL HAVE A PAINFREE AND JOYFULL MERRY CHRISTMASS > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Rose: As I have posted before, antidepressants have long been used in pain management, often in combination with pain meds. When first offered to me, I balked at the idea of taking Prozac. But it has helped the Ultram greatly. And it certainly hasn't hurt my mood. -E

Guest guest
Dealing with family... it's often not very fun. I have a good friend, named Cheryl. We have been friends for over 25 years now. She is an only child, her mother was an only child, and she never knew her father. her grandmother died a long time ago, so for a very long time it was just her and her mother and grandfather, and her grandfather died about 10 years ago. So it was just her and her mother. They were very close, spending a lot of time together, went on all their vacations together, etc. That was fine while Cheryl was younger, in her young to mid-twenties, but by the time Cheryl was about 30 she didn't want her mother so involved in her life. I think Cheryl was really her mother's best friend, but her mother used to drive Cheryl nuts by calling all the time, always wanting to do things, get together, etc. I can remember so clearly Cheryl rolling her eyes and complaining about her mother - feeling like her mother was cramping her life, her mother was driving her nuts, etc. Cheryl's mother died two years ago, on Christmas night, a few minutes before midnight, after a long battle with cancer. The last few months of her life were horrible.. Cheryl took a leave of absence and stayed with her mother around the clock, feeding her, cleaning her, changing her diaper, giving her meds. I was there for a little while on Christmas night, a few hours before her mother passed on. Her mother was obviously struggling.. not wanting to go, resisting the urge to just give in and float away.. Cheryl was sobbing as she told her mother over and over again that it was OK, that she could let go now. My heart was breaking as I sat on the other side of the bed, holding her mother's other hand.. it was a scene I will never forget. And as I sat there, I thought about all the times that Cheryl and her mother had fought, or Cheryl had complained about her or avoided her, and I knew she would give anything in the world just to have her mother back, no matter how frustrated or angry she used to get with her mother. I think about that a lot.. because it taught me a huge lesson. Your parents are not going to be here forever, your siblings aren't going to be here forever, your friends are not going to be here forever. And on the day that they lay dying, what kind of thoughts do you want in your head? Do you want to be grateful and happy with whatever time you had been able to spend with them? Or do you want to be sitting there thinking about all the wasted time due to arguments, annoyances, avoidance, etc? It's amazing to me the huge change that made on my life. I see people differently now, I have a lot more patience with all of the people that drive me nuts, whether they be family, friends or co-workers. It's just not worth it to get upset.. there isn't enough time to waste on that kind of stuff. I see my family in a completely different light now. My mother could VERY easily drive me completely nuts, but for the past two years I have been able to look right past all the things that annoy or bug me, and I am able to see just the goodness of the person that she is, and just accept her and love her unconditionally, because she is the only mother I will ever have. And I'm grateful that I STILL have her, because I know she could be taken from me at any minute. hmm.. this went a lot longer than I intended - and I didn't mean it to sound like a lecture - sorry! Christmas is a rough time for me... I was very close to her mother, so it's a tough anniversary. And it's hard dealing with Cheryl too, who gets so depressed at this time of year, and who doesn't have any family to celebrate Christmas with now.. it's just tough. My suggestion for dealing with the tough family members is try to look beyond the behaviour and love them anyway. Yeah, I know, a lot easier said than done. But here is my other suggestion: write them a letter. Pour your heart out.. tell them exactly how you feel. Don't tell them that " they do this " and " they do that " , just express how YOU feel, tell them how it hurts when you feel like they don't listen to you, or care about what you are going through. Letters are a great tool I think... if you are talking to someone face to face, especially someone who is very self-centered, it's very easy for them to tune you out or turn the conversation into something else. But with a letter - they can't do that. And even if the letter upsets them, they won't stop reading it.. you will get your chance to say what you want. Anyway, that's it for my kleenex moment Hope you all had a wonderful hol9iday....

Guest guest
Hi Rose - I hear ya. I know what it's like to cry at the drop of a hat Have you talked to your doctor about maybe getting an anti-depressant pill? It might help you out.. help you to balance out your emotions. I found that anti-depressants helped me immensely. I didn't even think that I was very depressed, I wasn't hiding out in bed all day thinking dark thoughts.. but things would get to me very easily. I've been taking them for about a year and a half now, and now I feel very level. That's not to say I don't still have bad days, or get upset about things, but I no longer get upset over the little things, or get upset for really no reason at all. Yeah, I know more meds are probably the last thing you want But if they can help you deal emotionally, that's a big plus, in my book anyway. This disease is bad enough to handle on it's own - anything you can do to stay in a positive frame of mind is a good thing. > > Dealing with family... it's often not very fun. > > > > I have a good friend, named Cheryl. Guest guest
We've been lucky so far as far as weather is concerned. We had unusually warm and balmy days until recently. We're now very cold, but very dry except for one day. They've already declared drought warnings all around us. Snow has been mentioned as a possibility for next week. I now know that I'm definitely middle-aged because I'm hoping that it will turn out to be rain! -E

It helps remind me why the PAI works. Based on the 12 step fellowship, there is never a doubt that you know we do understand. It is about one Pancreatic patient sharing with another Pancreatic patient. You are not alone in your description of Christmas dinner, the family dynamics, and the loneliness and sadness left with you. I don't know why, for just one day, people can just let it go, give it up, and quit fighting. It is just not that important. I commend the supportive family members in this group who do show up to be part of. I know that is hard, as this disease affects, not only us, but those we love as well. You chose such good self care. Way to go. I hope others can hear how important that is, the me time. Not only did you have the bath and meal, but you gave yourself permission to cry, a little. It's about balance. It is so important to allow yourself to do what you need to do, but understand moderation. It is nice to see a healthy attitude. I am sorry that it was hard for you, though. Guest guest
Karyn: I have often spoken to those who will listen about the loneliness of chronic illness. Unfortunately, it's difficult, if not impossible, for many to comprehend. I'm a very fortunate woman in that I have a very strong, loving marriage. But the stress and strain of my years of illness has taken heavy tolls. Not in the relationship, but in the way we " live " each day. For too many years, I've had to say: I don't have a life. I have a condition. -E
