Guest guest
Laurie, Ibuprofen may be the answer. It is an anti-inflamatory that gives better pain relief. Tylenol works great for fevers, but ibuprofen works better for pain. But, I don’t know if you can find it in a liquid form without sugar. There may be a diabetic liquid ibuprofen. Check with your doctor or his/her nurse for the correct dose for Logan’s age. Rhonda (mom to Shan) Pain Medication and teething Hi everyone. Does anyone know of a keto friendly pain medication to use for a 23 month old. Logan is having a terrible time getting his 2 year molars. He has had an awful time with each and every tooth he has gotten. I have been given him feverall and it might work or take the edge off for a short time. He is up alot at night. So....fever, pain and poor sleep of course are giving him seizures eventhough his ketones are fine. (is not as bad as before the diet) Also no changes have been made. I want to call his pediatrician to get something stronger. Any ideas would be appreciated for pain and sleep. Thanks.......... Guest guest
Thanks Rhonda.... I wasn't thinking he could have Motrin. But it is in the Book. So, I am going to try it. Also, Thanks to all of you for your help and advise. Especially Bill and Cammie............ We have had a really bad few days with seizures and teething. We had to use the Diastat. Do you think it can give rebound seizures after using it about 4 times in 2 weeks? Laurie > Laurie, > > Ibuprofen may be the answer. It is an anti-inflamatory that gives better > pain relief. Guest guest
Hi Laurie, I missed the first round of your post, sorry. Motrin (or Advil) is by far our first choice for pain and fever. Both of my girls were bothered by teething, and motrin was really the only thing that gave them relief. My 4 year old daughter (not on the diet) has had a couple of febrile seizures, one was particularly nasty. Needless to say, we are scared every time she shows any sign of fever. We usually alternate Tylenol and Motrin when necessary, but Motrin works the best by far for their fevers, too. Hope those molars hurry up and grow so they'll leave him alone! Can't help with the diastat questions. I carry it in my purse for my 4 year old, but thankfully we haven't had to use it. Best wishes, Glenna > > Laurie, > > > > Ibuprofen may be the answer. Guest guest
Glenna, I went to the drugstore this evening. Every brand of ibuprofen (motrin) has alot of sugars and starch in them. Children's and adults. I am not sure what to do. What brand do you use? Or did you buy it special. OHH.... I can't wait for these molars to come in!!!. Is that level too high to calculate into Logan's diet temporarily? If you think it is, my thought would be to use adult strength Motrin. The carb is very small -- I think it has corn starch as a binder, but very little. I have the value somewhere, but I can't find it. We use the caplets but Motrin comes in another form, too... tablets or capsules??? Anyway, you could crush the caplet (or open a capsule) and make a solution with water. Give Logan a third or fourth of that, depending on the dose you want, and mix it in a spoonful of applesauce. Our daughter had a terrible time with teething, too, when she was Logan's age. Motrin worked well for her, but I gave it to her continuously for 3-4 days. I also used Hyland's teething tablets. They helped, too, but I suspect they might have a significant amt. of carb. If you have a health food store or Wild Oats market you might check them out if you're interested. Maybe Hyland's has a website by now. Good Luck. I'm sure things will get better again, once those molars are in. Cammie
Guest guest
Hi. After last night and this morning. I am going to give him the motrin. We have room to add the carb from the motrin as we never added it back in after the topamax was completely weaned. I can't tell you haw awful it has been but I am sure you all know..........Also I saw Hylands and it has additional sugars so that is out for now. His pediatrician said to use the over the counter teething medicine before tylenol with codiene. They have lots of sugar sorbital and others. I told her but she said try it first. I reread the labels(again) and I am not using it. Thanks for the motrin data........ Laurie > > Glenna, > > I went to the drugstore this evening. Guest guest
Hi Laurie, We've given my keto daughter children's chewable Advil. She has rarely had a fever in the 2 years she's been on the diet, so we've only used it once or twice for her. I know some kids can be bothered by the aspartame, and it does have mannitol and starch. She was never bothered by it, but you might not want to take a chance. There may be a diabetic version, it would probably be something you'd have to ask the pharamacist about...I doubt they'd have it on the shelf. You could also consider crushing an adult tablet (won't have the sweetener stuff), but you probably will need to have the pharmacist calculate the correct dosage of that for him. I know you and your husband are both in the medical field, so you may know how to figure the dosage on your own. I know it won't help you with Logan, because he won't be able to take the oral liquid Motrin, but a friend of mine used to rub some Motrin on her kids gums for teething pain. Her pediatrician recommended it, and they both swore by it. I can't see how it would help, but if it worked, who cares? Maybe you can pass that tidbit on to someone else who might need it down the road! Good luck! Glenna > Glenna, > I went to the drugstore this evening.
