Hi - thanks for responding to my e-mail regarding the

cramping, it sounds like we have very similar pains, mine is also

lower left ab, and shooting pains through the groin/vagina. Very

weird. The baby is in my left horn.

Regarding your cervix question, I would definitely make sure its

checked every week now. I think 4cm might be considered normal, but

there is a range - I've measured 3.5cm at 4 different checks - my

peri says that is fine. A friend of mine (non-MA pregnancy) was put

on modified bedrest when they discovered her cervix was only about

2cm. After a couple of weeks it didn't shorten any further and they

decided that she simply had a congenitally short cervix - i.e. it was

normal for her. She went on to have a normal pregnancy.

Take it easy (no lifting etc.) and make them check you every week for

a while.

Good luck,

a

19.5 weeks

Wow, that stinks.

I go to a high risk OB and I think that makes a big difference. Just

me carrying twins and having a UU is high risk enough I did not need

a shorten cervix too. When do you go for your next u/s? Maybe you can

ask them to check your cervix then? It will only take a minute. Plus

the cervix is a muscle and if you are stressed it will be affected. I

take a few deep breaths and try to relax before they check mine.

Let me know how it works out, or email me directly at

Cervix/IC Question! preg ment

FFN is short for a Fetal Fibronectin test, which predicts preterm

labor. It is very similar to a pap smear just with out the lubricant.

They take a sampling of the cervix secretions and the test results

are back within hours. A negative result is 99% accurate and just

gives me the peace of mind that I can make it another 2 weeks.

Hi Dena,

May I ask, does having a cerclage put in mean complete bed rest?

My doctor told me I may have to have complete bedrest ( I have UD, 2

cervices)I am not pregnant, but planning to soon. Is it reasonable

for my doctor to assume that I will have to be put on complete

bedrest at this point, doesn't it depend on the pregnancy itself?

Thanks.

Zainab,

> May I ask, does having a cerclage put in mean complete bed rest?

I am not quite sure. When my doctor was dicussing the possibiliy of a

" rescue " cerclage with me he mentioned complete bedrest. I am not sure if

this is true in all cases. Also, I'm not sure if an earlier or " elective "

cerclage means bedrest or not. Maybe someone else will know more than me.

Hope this helps a little.
