From the way they advertise it, it's supposed to help you to maintain proper form to get the best ab workout, sooooo why did I hurt on the back of my arms, my neck, and back after doing it??? It's a bit more awkward than what it looks on TV. You have to put your wrists through a strap up over your head and bring the chair and your body into a jack knife position. I have very little core/trunk strength so I felt like I had to pull the strap with my hands and lift the foot bar with my feet just to get my momentum going to get the chair moving. I must've strained with my neck as well. The ab lounger was an early b-day present for hubby. He's not so sure that he likes it yet either. He lays on the floor and does about 500 crunches EVERY night, so I got him the chair figuring that it had to be better than being down on the floor. This morning my daughter put me through a workout with a weighted medicine ball, then I did 200 crunches-- on the floor, without the ab lounger. At least the pain that I'm feeling tonight is in my upper abs and not my neck and back! They sell the ab loungers at Academy and sporting goods stores now, so you don't have to order them off TV, but if I were you, I'd try one out first. If you're looking for something to help you lose weight in your tummy... no amount of crunches will do that... my hubby is proof of that!! LOL. Crunches will strengthen and tone the tummy muscles, but if one doesn't cut down on calorie intake and do cardio workouts to lose the belly flab, one will never see the toned tummy/six pack underneath. Your story about telling the Wal-Mart employee that you were "due in two weeks" when she asked reminded me of when a dentist asked me when I was due... only thing is, I didn't have your sense of humor... I just about cried because my baby was already over a year old! I'm pretty sure that he never asked anyone when their baby was due again! Reminds me of that joke about never asking a woman when she is due unless you see the head crowning! hugs, janet
Guest guest
Thanks Janet, Sounds like the weighted medicine ball works though. If your sore it must have worked muscles that haven't been exactly used. What is the ball???? You know that Wal-Mart employee(girl) wasn't exactly skinny either, wonder when hers was due. I got it at Academy, but they have them at most sporting goods stores and Wal-Mart. They're usually near the Pilates equipment. They come in different diameters and weights. I guess they're a modern day medicine ball, if you remember those from P.E. class growing up. I do alot of tricep overhead exercises with mine. hugs, Janet
