Guest guest
Hello everyone. I have a question for those of us who are taking Methotrexate and Pred. I am having trouble dropping from 10mgs to 9mg, without my rt eye and left ear getting sore. I am on 8cc or 20mg(pills). I had to go back up to 11mgs of Pred., it worked. My doctor said she wanted me to come in and see about changing my meds. But today she called me back and said she would try to raise my Metho since i am not having any liver problems showing up in my labs. I hope this works. I have an appt. with my rhuemy monday, the 23rd. I would like to get some input on some different treatments other than the metho. I know about the Enbrel, cytoxen, that's all i can recall now. Can i please get some input back. Love *Is there anyone else is having trouble tappering off of there pred right now and on Metho?

It seems very slow but it's better than not tryoing at all..there were others on the list who also came down 1/2 mg at a time..Hope you find the " formula " that works for you JanetG
Guest guest
, I am on 17 1/2mg of metho and 14mg of pred now. I am tapering off of the pred. The dr increased my metho to 7 tabs a week about 2 months ago. I don't feel like anything is working. I keep getting flares and increase my pred back to 20 mg and all goes away for a while. Then when I decrease my pred my flares start. I was at one time down to 8mg pred but couldn't stay there for long. I saw my rheummy last week and he said I could go to 10 tabs a week safely of metho. I can hardly handle the 7. I asked about Imuran. He said it was a great drug, but didn't want to change me at this point. Geeez...... Why not.??? He told me the cartiledge in my nose was being eaten away. I wanted scans of my throat because it hurts most of the time. My ribs are really hurting today and nose too. His instructions were to decrease pred by 1mg weekly. If I'm flaring I don't understand why I'm decreasing pred. I feel I should up it today. He did say Cytoxon and Enbrel were good drugs too, but much more toxic. I need new doctors and someone who will be in charge and not leave it all up to me. I'm too confused right now to make the right decisions. I also have fibro and Chiari Malformation, so I really don't know what pain is caused from what. My ear hasn't flared yet. Wish I could be of more help. Let me know if you find out anything. I hate the pred, but hate coming off of it too because of how it makes me feel. HOpe you have a better day. Please let me know if you have any new info. Hugs
Guest guest
I am on 25mg of metho and 10 of Pred and have a lot of trouble getting the Pred below 10. If I stay as well as I am at the moment the doctor says I may reduce the Pred by 1mg per month. But my eyes keep flaring and I find the loss of vision distressing. One thing that has made a difference for me and is still in the trial phase is antibiotics. A few weeks ago I had to take some for a minor infection. I was only on them for 5 days but in that time I noticed so many improvements including the need to suction my trach less and a return to normal 8 hours of sleep, less pain and more mobility. Now I have been on the antibiotics for 3 weeks and the improvements have stayed. I have 2 more weeks on them and then we will have to decide what to do. I am hoping the antibiotics will help me to reduce the Pred. Ros Metho & Pred Hello everyone. I have a question for those of us who are taking Methotrexate and Pred. Guest guest
Hi! I just had an appointment last Thursday with no less than 5 topd ophthalmalogists specializing in rheumatology at the med school here in Portland and was advised to take two Advil when my eyes flare. I haven't had to try it yet, but it is definitely worth trying. Good luck. Dagny > I am on 25mg of metho and 10 of Pred and have a lot of trouble getting > the Pred below 10. Guest guest
. Glad to hear that the antibiotics are working for you. I mentioned it again to my rheummy and all he said was " interesting " . I will keep trying. I also am having a hard time coming down off the pred. I'm now at 13mg and 17 1/2 metho. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I just know we'll get off this stuff some day. Have a great day. Hugs

Guest guest
Hi Ros, Which antibiotic(s) are you taking? I have been on Minocin for the past two and a half years for another disease that is sort of a cousin to RP. I will soon find out if I have RP, also. Anyway, the antibiotic idea is very interesting (as 's doctor says :-) to me, too. I have known many people with RA, fibromyalgia and other rheumatic diseases who are doing very well with the antibiotics, usually Minocin, Doxycycline, Zithromax, Biaxin, and/or Clindamycin. I wish you all the success with your health! take care, Connie H. <<<<<<<Original Message>>>>>>> Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2000 19:02:26 +1000 Subject: Re: Metho & Pred.............
