Guest guest
Yes I did see Whale Rider and it was a movie everyone should see....It was nominated for a couple of 's..... RE: Book Yeah Pam it is a good movie. They treated the aboriginie people about like the US treated the native Indians years ago. Took the children from the parents and put them in school to de-native them. Sad sad sad. Have you seen Whale Rider?? Another wonderful movie. Guest guest
I didn't read the book...but I'm aware of the history of it. I try to avoid that kind of reading because I find it very depressing. Any atrocity that man can dream up has been at least attempted somewhere in the world...it's so sad. But all we can do is to strive to prevent more atrocities from happening in the present and future. Kathy Book Have any of you seen the movie Rabbit-Proof Fence or read the book....I saw the movie on Encore the other night and it still sticks with me...It centers around three aboriginine girls who were taken from their mothers and put at the River Camp...They called them aboriginine casts, which meant half breeds....This is a true story and very intense....At the end of the movie they showed the two that were still living and one of them tells what happened later.....The book is written by one of their daughters....I highly recommend the movie and the book, altho I can't read any more, it has to be good.....It's sad and another autrasity against humans..... Guest guest
They did the same thing with the aboriginal people in most "civilized" countries. Canada had the Native Americans, as did the US, the various South American countries had their native peoples, Africa, Alaska (both before and after statehood) etc...it's a sad commentary on humanity. Guest guest
PS.....If you donate the ones you are finished with to the library you can take a tax deduction and also help build their choices for others. Kathy Re: Book I listen to audio tapes when I go on long trips. I'd buy them more but they are SOOO rediculously expensive. Three times the cost of books. They are great for staying awake on the road though. I've checked our library & they don't have much. I am halfway through the Da Vinci Chronicles right now. Its really interesting! Guest guest
I give mine toi my grandmother. She is blind & gets free ones from the program for the blind in Virginia but they often don't have any decent newer stuff. After she listens to them she puts them in the clubhouse of the place she lives at & all the other old people with bad eyesight listen to them. dawnKathy wrote: PS.....If you donate the ones you are finished with to the library you can take a tax deduction and also help build their choices for others.
