UU - ovulating with one tube

Hello,

I am a new UU member. My story is posted the beginning of January.

I have had 3 m/c one of which was ectopic. My last m/c was ectopic

and occured last month. I had surgery for the ectopic pregnancy and

that's when I was diagnosed with UU. With unicornuate uterus you

only have one tube that is attached. The pregnancy was growing in

the non functioning tube (the tube wasn't attached to anything). I

do however have two functioning ovaries. The strange thing is, I

conceived on the good side but the pregnancy migrated across my body

to the bad tube and got stuck as it had no way out. They removed my

non functioning tube. I was devastated. I'm still pretty new to

this whole thing. I havn't had any problem getting pregnant in the

past but My dr. told me that I have half the chance of getting

pregnant now with only one tube. Although it is possible for a

pregnancy to occur in one ovary and migrate across to the opposite

tube, I was told it is unlikely to occur again. My question is, how

do people with one tube know when they are ovulating on the good

side? If I can only get pregnant when I ovulate on my right side

how do I know when that is? I conceived in late Oct on my good side

and had an ectopic in Dec. I had a period right after my m/c-

surgery Dec 11. Is this concidered a period? My next period was

Jan 10. Will I be ovulating on the good side if I try to get

pregnant in February? Thanks for your help.

This is one of the huge bummers that come along with a UU (in my

opinion, at least!) An u/s could show which side had more mature

follicles prior to ov. When I was ttc, my doc didn't want to do that

every cycle until we started IUI (which I never did need to do.) I

tried to analyze my aches an pains and guess which side I was

ovulating from, but both ovaries usually hurt mid-cycle, so that

wasn't all too accurate. We'd just try and hope for the best...very

frustrating. If it was a wasted month, I'd have rather just known and

not gotten my hopes up.

As far as I know, you USUALLY alternate ovaries, but not always

(again-very frustrating, I know.) Some people have one ovary that

dominates and sometimes it is just random...it just depends.

It is worth asking your doc about an u/s, but I'm not sure if that is

typically done. As I said, my doc didn't feel that it was necessary.

Just my sanity at stake, I guess! Wishing you lots of luck and hope

that your right ovary does its job!! Hang in there!

Hi ,

I only have 1 functioning tube as well - mine is on the right side.

I have both ovaries also. I've never had a problem getting pg, it

usually only takes 2-3 months. I can usually tell what side I'm

ovulating on, it usually gets tender if I push down slightly in the

area of my ovary. That does help me since then I can tell when I'm

ovulating from the good side.

I wouldn't lose hope that you only have 1/2 a chance of getting pg.

Try and stay positive.

Hi ,

I'm new too, and don't have any answers for you (I have a UU also,

two tubes) but don't ever feel myself ovulate. I just wanted to send

support and love. I did have a successful pregnancy that went 37

wks.

I cannot imagine the pain you have gone through, I'm so sorry. LOTS
