Guest guest
Oh, , Oh My! I am so glad you were able to get into the van and get some food into you. I have had low blood sugars before, but only had it that quick and that bad once. That was enough for me. Thank the Great Spirit you are home safe and sound. Take care, and know that I am sending up a prayer for you. Loving hugs, MM
Guest guest
Boy .. you gotta love the human body .. if it isn't playing one trick on you .. it is playing another. Today I felt pretty good so figured I would take a short trip to Target. Well, I felt so good (no breathing problems, no angina, pain was at a minimum) so I walked around inside looking at things I hadn't had a chance to see in awhile .. well, I must have walked a little bit too much .. I had taken my insulin AND eaten lunch .. but I guess the exercise made my insulin kick in extra quick .. as I was putting my bags in the van, I bent over to get the bottles of clothes detergent from under the bottom on the shopping cart .. and it was like the street came up to meet me. It was like .. an immediate sugar low .. no warning signs .. nothing .. just immediate tunnel vision, sweating like a race horse and immediate nausea. WHAM! I had candy in my purse and ate them and sat in the van for a couple of minutes .. waiting for them to kick in .. so the tunnel vision would leave. After about five minutes, the tunnel vision left, but I knew I needed real food, so drove across the parking lot to the Mc's and got a chicken sandwich and an orange juice. That was the fastest I have ever " hit bottom " (my glucometer reading was 42 AFTER a Milky Way bar).. usually I can tell when the sugar is getting low .. but this was like .. slam bam .. thank you ma'am .. and all I could think was .. oh please, don't let me fall out in the middle of the parking lot. The way people drive, I might have gotten squished. So now I am dealing with the after effects .. the trembling muscles .. the erratic heart beat .. all the neat little muscle spasms that follow a severe drop in sugar .. plus the emotional slap to reality that I cannot go out by myself any more. If I do, I am taking a big chance of hurting someone else if it happens again while I am driving. If it isn't the lupus, its my heart .. if its not the heart, its the lungs .. and now .. the diabetes ... grrrrrr sighs . . ok .. done whining .. I will just have to be more careful next time .. carry more chocolate or something! Sure gave me a wake up call .. that is for sure.. hugs.. Guest guest
Hi - I thought I was going to bed. Then saw your post and had to read it. What can I say? The loss of independence is by far the worst for me. I can't drive - can't even take a shower sitting on the stupid shower chair without telling someone. I have been fortunate too like you in that I didn't have a car accident and get myself smashed up - or worse - smash someone else. I could not have handled that at all. I hope now that you have said it out loud you will stick with it and not go out on adventures by your lonesome any longer. We need you here to take care of us. OK??? It's OK to be super upset about this. It better be OK because it still upsets me. It isn't like we are 97 year old women here.
