Guest guest
Workers comp for Chiari should be legitimate, but it can cause you nothing but trouble. The insurance companies. don't like to assume responsibility for a congenital condition even though work may have made the symptoms begin. They will have you see their doctors, who usually know absolutely nothing about ACM. They fight having you see an expert, and I just recently had a very sick patient denied surgery. He is unable to work and has no other insurance. If you have alternative insurance, I suggest you use it if you can. If you state the injury occurred at work, they won't. I'd love to hear from you if you are, or have.

Guest guest
Good advice. I didn't know what was wrong with me. I thought I had done something at work. I went the whole nine yards with Workers Comp. They jerked me around for 2 years. Even after the Doctor ordered an MRI (the 5th one I'd seen), they said they wouldn't cover it. Only after I told them to use my regular insurance was my condition diagnosed. My Neuro Surgeon said that if I would have waited, I could be in a wheel chair right now. Guest guest
To all, Well they are not responsible for workers comp. change your job or go on benifits. You did not get the chiari as a result of the job so why should you be compansated for it? I can't work because of chiari. So I applied for a pension. Guest guest
Many people are asymptomatic until something causes the symptoms to begin. Often it can be a work-related injury. One of our patients had no symptoms until hit in the head at work! I think that would qualify as a work-related injury. Many patients don't even know they have ACM until a work-related injury causes them to have symptoms and a subsequent MRI establishes the diagnosis. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a pension. Guest guest
Yes. In my case, I was working in a hospital, lifting patients and answering the phones etc....All of it repetive, and straining to the neck. My symptoms didn't start until I had been working there for over a year. I believe that here in the US our workers compensation should cover the " trauma " related and so diagnosing our Chiari. We pay into anyway and it is there for us. Everything we " get " we ultimately pay for anyway. Trish/CA > In that case it would. Guest guest
It would indeed be wonderful, but it doesn't usually work as it should. Workers comp takes forever, IF they decide to pay, and it's a total waste of time seeing most of their physicians. Who amongst this group would think the normal physician to see for ACM is an orthopedic doctor? This is always the first physician patients are sent to by workers comp. I, for one, would like to see people diagnosed by a neurologist before being sent to any specialist. Re: More questions Yes.
