Guest guest
Carolyn, Hi! If you haven't read this book yet, try and get your hands on it, it will explain many unanswered questions about hearing loss and the effects hearing loss has on children, even if it's a mild loss. Facilitating Hearing and Listening in Young Children. By Carol Flexer Ph.d. This books breaks down, how things are missed when a child has a mild loss, but in a way we can grasp. My daughter daughter was diagnosised at birth, but had conflicting hearing test for almost 7 months, before aiding her, due to constant infection and tubes. le has a moderate to severe loss (65 db both ears), but from 7 months to 2 1/2 she was not aided properly, due to difficulties in getting her to cooperate for testing etc. At the age of 2 1/2 once we were able to get her to fully cooperate for testing, and switching audies, her aids were boosted up 20 dbs, to where she is receiving great benefits from her aids. Her speech and language made noticable leaps and bounds in 3 weeks. This book helped me so much I wish it was the first book I read on hearing loss, and didn't wait 2 years into my journey to read it. I can't recommend it enough for all the unanswered question you may have on aiding or not aiding and how important fm systems are etc. Tons of great information in it.
