Guest guest
Here Here, I had trouble getting my membership info, then had a question about it and still have yet to get it answered. I have emailed and attempted to call (more than once on both attempts). Still no reply. I am also not real excited about renewing my membership. Todd D. Eastland Memorial Hospital EMS Manager 304 S. Daugherty PO Box 897 Eastland, Texas 76448 ext. 408 Cell Fax ems@... EMSAT Ok, I guess it's time for me to wade into the semi-regular EMSAT discussion and fights. First, I'll say that I was persuaded (or was it shamed?) into joining EMSAT not long after I got my EMT certification. My biggest challenge after joining was in getting EMSAT to uphold its end of the deal -- namely to send my membership materials. I realize there have been staffing issues and differences among board members, but even the most amateurish organizations have mastered the art of sending out membership materials. Speaking of membership materials, that's one thing that DOES get new members, believe it or not. How much would it cost to print up EMSAT window decals like CLEAT and the IAFF do for their members? And we all know why a CLEAT sticker is handy. (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) While an EMSAT sticker might not mean the exact same thing as a CLEAT sticker, it certainly reminds our law enforcement friends who we are. (Standard tongue-in-cheek disclaimer -- I do not condone or encourage any violations of Transportation or Penal Codes.) I have a lot of respect for several of the board members and recognize their contributions to EMS, along with the extreme demands on their time. However, it often seems to appear that the board members only communicate with the Texas EMS community (or even the membership) during a crisis involving EMSAT, whether it is in a failure to send membership materials or the inevitable issues that arise from public safety telemarketing. The real crisis at EMSAT is a failure to communicate what EMSAT does for the Texas EMS community. The EMS Commission legislation is a great idea and one that I support in concept. However, EMSAT needed to do a better job of communicating to the legislature AND the relevant health care interests exactly how and why an EMS Commission would help. I've tried EMSAT and attempted to give it a fair shake. Right now, I can't say that I'm particularly excited about renewing my membership. I hate to sound selfish, but when one can show me what value EMSAT provides me for my membership dues, I'll be a lot more eager to renew. -Wes Ogilvie
Guest guest
The real question to me is how much longer EMSAT can use the " these were old problems that are being fixed " defense before we realize the problem is endemic to EMSAT, not just to old board members or staff. -Wes EMSAT Ok, I guess it's time for me to wade into the semi-regular EMSAT discussion and fights. Guest guest
Mr. Todd , I have sent your information to our new coordinator to process. On behalf of EMSAT I wish to apoligize as I was unaware this problem existed. Please contact me personally at the number below if there are any other problems. FF/LP EMSAT Vice-Chair I am not an officer with EMSAT. I am a member. Actually, I have been a member twice. I too got upset with an officer of EMSAT and did not renew my membership one year. However, realizing that my not renewing was not benefiting anyone, I did rejoin the next year. May I say this, I attend most of the EMSAT Board of Directors meetings, even though I am not an officer or on the board. I can tell you from several years of attending the meetings that the officers and board members are trying very hard to improve EMS in Texas. I do not want to leave anyone out but I have seen , Al , Gene Gandy, Jane Hill, Scarborough, and others work very hard to improve the organization and EMS in Texas. I know as a fact that the officers and board members have spent many of their own dollars to represent the 52,000 EMS providers in Texas. They are to be commended for their effort, not chastized. Yes, there have been rough roads traveled since EMSAT was formed. I can tell each of you that the officers and Board are working very hard to make EMSAT a better organization. I can tell you that there have been changes and will be more changes in an effort to improve the organization and its representation of those involved in EMS in Texas. Please, give them a chance. Sitting back and throwing stones at EMSAT will accomplish nothing. Yes, there has been a problem of getting membership cards. I was unable to get my membership card for some time. I talked to one time and had a card. Any of the officers and board members are there to help you. If you have a problem, contanct one of them. Tell them your problem and I bet it will be taken care of. The past coordinator dropped the ball on many items. She has been replaced and I expect the new coordinator to do a much better job. Give her a chance too. None of the officers of EMSAT have asked me to put my .02 cents online about EMSAT and none of them know or knew I was going to send this e-mail. I feel compelled, however, to voice my support of the organization. As I previously said, I have not always been pleased with what was happening but truly believe that the organization is over the hump and is making great strides for improvement. Thank yo for your time and have a Great Day! A. EMSAT member
