Karol I know how she feels. When i first was dx with lupus i was working at a cloth store and i was broken out on my arms and feet but i managed to work i did wear long sleeves so no one could see my arms. But they fired me they said i used someone elses credit card for someone else. I was so upset cause i knew that wasn't the real reason the real reason was because i was sick. But i did get another jobs once they let me go from that store. I know it's not easy being sick like this and people just don't understand what we go through unless they are sick to. i would just love to walk in someones elses shoes that are not sick for a day and let them walk in mine for the day then they might understand alittle bit on what we are going through.

Love Kimi

Karol, don't blame yourself for not taking Stacie's number. Maybe you can swing around Winn Dixie one night and if you get a chance to see her get her phone number and give her some more support. Does she realize that's what the store owner is actually trying to do? If she does she should seek some legal advice.

It could happen to any of us and it is so unfair. I wish the law was a little bit more strict about the way situations like that are handled, but the same can be said about so many other things.

Hope something works out for Stacie. Maybe you'll meet her one day again and she'll let you know she found a really nice place to work. Hope that's the case.

Boy am I mad!

I hope everyone don't mind my venting a little. Something happened yesterday that really set me off. I didn't get much sleep thinking about this last night. I'm not very good at putting things down but I'm going to give it a try. This is what happened......

My husband and I were doing a little shopping at Publix, one of our local grocery stores. While there, we ran into someone that we don't know real well but have chatted with from time to time over the years. Stacie has worked at our other grocery store in town for at least five years that I know of, the stores name is Winn Dixie. She worked in the deli or bakery and she was always so nice and friendly, we always had time to share a laugh together. We hadn't seen Stacie for several months and wondered where she had gone. Well, yesterday we found out Winn Dixie has changed her hours to nights and they have her doing heavier work. I'm not exactly sure what she is doing now but she has to climb a ladder once in a while. She was rather upset telling us about her situation when she said, " this don't help my lupus"! Well, needless to say.......I was floored! I had no idea Stacie was sick, I'm almost afraid to say this but....... she didn't look sick....... that is not until I saw her yesterday. The minute she said she had lupus I noticed the tell tale rash on her face. Turns out we visit the same rheumatology office just different docs. Anyway, to make a long story short Stacie is thinking about suing Winn Dixie for discrimination since, many times, an opening in her old position in the store has opened up but they won't give her the job back. Winn Dixie is trying to force Stacie to quit her job. Stacie can't do this! She's a single mom with a teenage son to support, not to mention her medical bills. Now you know why I'm upset. I couldn't get her out of my mind last night. I wish there was something I could do to help but I don't know what. Damn it.....I should have gotten her phone number but I didn't. I'll tell you this, I will tell as many people as I can about Stacie. Winn Dixie just lost one good customer and hopefully more if I have a say in it!

Sorry this is so long, I just had to tell someone. Now, I have over three hundred posts to try to read. I've been a little under the weather lately myself and I've gotten behind. I hope everyone has a good week.

Hi MM,

Gosh.......I wish I had that kind of take charge personality to follow threw with the things you suggested! I sometimes get mad at myself when I allow my shyness to get in the way of things. But.......when I get in touch with Stacie, and I'm sure I will, she may be capable of doing such things and I sure could give her a hand. I don't know when I will see her again but I do see a friend of her's when I go to Winn Dixie. I'm gonna give Pat, Stacie's friend, my phone number and see what happens from there. Stacie did mention a law suit when we talked so maybe she would be open to some of your suggestions.

Hugs...

Karol

Re: Boy am I mad!

Karol, No one will blame you if you scan the emails and only read and answer those addressed withyour name on the subject line. Some of us have to do that fairly frequently. It comes with the Lupusterritory. And, about Winn Dixie, did you think about calling the local press about this? That's a bigcorporation and like Wally World, can take some heavy hits in the PR department with adversepublicity like this. It is a good idea to let these people know they aren't getting away with anything, and that we have our eyes on their practices...especially their unfair labor practices. That is one practical step you can take, along with organizing a letter writing campaign among otherfriends and neighbors to inundate that company with letters of protest on their treatment of yourfriend, and employees in general. Good luck. Hugs, MM "The LUPIES Store" Come check out our store...http://www.cafepress.com/thelupies"The LUPIES Web Page"http://www.itzarion.com/lupusgroup.html"The LUPIES online photo albums!" Mojo......I'm going to give my phone number to Pat, a friend of Stacie's, who works at W/D. I think they're friends anyway, I'll find out. That's the best way I can think of to get back in touch with her especially since I never go anywhere at night. I don't see well at night so I never leave the house unless I really have to. I bet it's been at least twenty years since I have driven a car after dark.

Yeah, Stacie knows what's going on and she did mention a lawsuit but I don't know her well enough to know if she serious about it. We are only acquaintances but I would like to get to know her better.

Hugs....
