Guest guest
Hi , welcome. IE is the hardest and scariest thing I've ever done. It's a real rite of passage, to learn to trust myself. My advice to you is to be gentle and loving, especially in the early phases of this. It's scary to truly let yourself eat as much as you want of whatever you want. It took me about six months to really begin trusting that I would never deprive myself again. And I gained weight during that phase, which scared me even more. But that's a normal part of this process. Paying attention to your emotions is a good thing, but so is paying attention to your body. Eating is complex, and peeling apart the layers takes time and discernment. Welcome to your new life! For years I've tried every diet under the sun and every time have gotten frustrated and angry and ended up eating more. Then last year I read a book called, "When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies." It has changed my life. The book stresses that diets don't work, that the key is learning to listen to your body and eat when hungry and stop when full. This made more sense to me that all other diet advice combined. However, reading it and doing it are two different things. I searched for a group like this in order to hear others ideas on how to implement this process. I've tried it a bit, but often end up paying more attention to my emotions that my body. I also am pretty good at waiting till hungry to start eating, but have trouble stopping when full. So any practical suggestions that have helped you be successful would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Katy (aka LorienWillow)
