Why the heck would they make it so that you can be a whole seven pounds BELOW goal anyway??? It always amazes me that there is such a push to be that far below goal. Heck, with most of us struggling with weight issues for most of our lives, is it reasonable to encourage us with incentives, etc. to be 7 pounds below our doctors' goals?? I think it's a bit self-defeating. Well, maybe by the time I reach KOPS, HQ will have changed that. LOL! Three pounds on top of goal is NOT much of a leeway. I can gain that in one day, depending on what I've eaten!! In order for me to ever even get below goal, I'd have to RAISE my goal weight. I wonder how many people end up doing that once they've reached goal. My doctor set my goal weight at 165 lbs, which is totally unreasonable, unachievable, unbelievable as far as I'm concerned. Those of you who have met me in person know that I'm a tall, large framed person. I'm with Clara.... I don't care how much I weigh, so long as I can wear a size 12 again. Once I get there, I'm changing my goal weight. My nutritionist is willing to write me a more reasonable goal slip. Does it have to be a doctor who signs it? Thank you for your encouragement, Barbara. hugs, janet

That is why I tell new members to tell their doctor about the leeway and suggest they get the doctor to make the goal weight 5 pounds more. It only has to be a "Licensed Health Care Professional" to write the goal slip. That could include a lot of choices. Makes perfect sense to me. As it was, my doctor wanted to put down 160 lbs as my goal weight... I had to plead my case to get 165! Thanks for answering my question about who can write a goal slip. My nutritionist works out of the Population Health Clinic within the Army Hospital. I'd say she qualifies as a licensed health care professional. hugs, janet
Guest guest
Hi, Kathleen Im with you i think that the 7 lbs below goal and the 3 lbs above is good its hard to take off 3 lbs can you imagine 5 lbs, been there done that ,I,ve seen me gain 5 lbs and say oh I.ll take it off and ended gaining 5 more hope they leave it the way it s been for yrs 7 done 3 up.... it takes me 2 wks to lose 3 lbs as I dont have big loses... some others can drop it off just by cutting some food and counting low calories I need my 1200 calories perday lower then that i,d have a pit in my stomach and I know I,d be looking to fill up and I know I,d be eating junk food and I dont ever want this to happen happy where I am..... hugs Helen,Kathleen wrote: I am a long, long way from being at goal, so that makes me an expert at what the leeway should be. Right? LOL.Ok, here's my perspective. I gained all this weight one pound at a time. I can even remember the first few pounds and thinking "oh well, it's only one pound. No problem." Then there was another pound and I thought the same thing. Then it was 5 pounds and I thought "Oh well, it's only 5 pounds and that's not much" And on and on it went until I no longer counted how many pounds it was. And now here I am. I think the 3 pounds above goal is good. It is a great big stop sign for us to obey.Ask me this question when I am nearing my goal and my answer may be different. LOLIt's all a matter of perspective. :)Smiles,Kathleen> I agree 100% Janet and Barbara. I would LOVE for the leeway to be 5> above and 5 below. How can we get this petition going? LOL! Guest guest
HELEN WROTE: 7 lbs below goal and the 3 lbs above is good its hard to take off 3 lbs can you imagine 5 lbs Helen, I have to agree with you - - if we had a 5# leeway on top, we'd use every ounce of it - - just like we do the 3# - - and if we had 10# on top, some people would use that too!! So set a reasonable goal - like Kathie S. said - if you'll set it 5# above where you'd really like to be - - get 5# under - - then you don't ever have to worry about that top leeway, no matter what it is!! Right??? A VERY WISE COORDINATOR (WOODY SPENCER) told me that many many years ago - - and, like Kathie, that's what I tell everybody in my chapter when they are setting goals. Most doctors will take your build and your age into consideration, and believe me - - when you pass 50 or 60, you can't expect to lose weight like you did at 20 - - our bodies just aren't as efficient at burning calories as they were when we were younger! SO LOSE IT NOW!! BEFORE YOU GET A DAY OLDER!!! BECAUSE NEXT YEAR IT WILL BE HARDER TO LOSE THAN IT IS THIS YEAR!!! BESIDES - - - YOUR BODY AND YOUR FAT GET TO BE REALLY GOOD FRIENDS, AND THEY DON'T WANT TO GET SEPARATED!! LOL (((HUGS))) Clara No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Guest guest
Helen, Thanks for your positive response. I was afraid all the list's KOPS were secretly mounting up a posse and coming after me! Guest guest
You're welcome Janet for the encouragement! Encouragement sure helps me and I love receiving those encouraging messages. I have 3 of those 7 under charms.....but I thought one day to myself....."who wants to lose the same 7 lbs. over and over?" I just want to stay a little below goal....not necessarily 7 under.
