Can you try moving some or all of tegretol dose to another time of day

and see if it makes any difference? I have the sense the increase in

tegretol is the problem......

But does she have any signs of being too ketotic?

The goal of the keto diet is to reduce medications, not increase them.

Vomiting might be a sign that she is toxic on the tegretol. Weaning

tegretol is a nightmare and takes several months. Be warned. Ask your

neurologist about that aspect.

Vomiting could be a sign of very bad constipation as well.

How is the diet working for you?

Deneesa,

My first guess would be med toxicity too. The diet in itself has shown to

increase the half life of the drugs (drugs stay longer in the body). I

expect the Dilantin is too high. Are you maxed out on Dilantin? Another

caution, therapeutic level for tegretol (any med) is not know for those on

the diet. It will be lower. Is Hannah presently having any seizures? If

the seizures have increased Dilantin being toxic could be the culprit. I

would suggest that you don't go higher than half the recommended amount for

Tegretol and see how Hannah does. If you go as high as the recommended

therapeutic dose then you are running a high risk for med toxicity and all

that could go with it (increased seizures, nausea/vomiting, etc.).

I checked on the internet for tegretol side effects and it did say that

nausea and vomiting could be a side effect to tegretol when giving too much

at the start. In other words, Hannah might do better if she were given a

smaller dose and increased at a slower rate.

Has the zantac been helping? Just curious because often Zantac has not

helped kids on the diet. We tried Zantac and it did not help. What helped

was digestive enzymes. On the other hand, zantac has helped some. It all

depends on what is causing the stomach problems.

Help!!! My daughter has been throwing up for the last 4 days; she is on the

ketogenic diet and two meds - Dilantin and tegretol; We are adding tegretol

in

hopes of taking her off dilantin; Hannah is throwing up everyday around the

same time and then she is fine for the rest of the day; She is already on

Zantac for gastro problems; Neurologist is not sure what if could be; She

gets her

breakfast (heavy keto meal) mixed with her two meds - we are wondering if

this

is too hard on her system even thought the throwing up just started and we

have been doing the meds /diet combo since Oct 1- when we added tegretol- we

are steading increasing the Tegretol to get it therapuetic; she is on 300mgs

and

she weighs 27lbs. Thanks for any info that may be helpful!!! Deneesa,

Stockton's seizures cannot be linked at all to an antibiotic, or even

an immunization. BUT, what is interesting is that his seizures get

obviously better with antibiotic treatment. Things that make you

go " HHmmmmm. "
