Guest guest
Thanks for all the kind words and to the person who said that it was a life-saving procedure for some people. YES that is true I'm sure but what my point was is that I am 35-40 lbs overweight - not over 100 like the drs. say you need to be for consideration of Gastric Bypass. I was sad because it made me FEEL like I was 100+ lbs overweight her saying that to me. I've worked hard to lose 18 lbs and need to lose more but not anywhere near 100+ or gastric bypass standards. That was my point. For those that do have that much to lose, I'm sure it would be a life-saving and life-changing surgery. If you read my original post, I actually went to see a dr. before SBD about the procedure and they told me " no way, you would need to gain at least 40 more pounds before it would be a consideration " ....anyway - I was just having a bad day and after my hard work at SBD, I felt like I was still looking to outsiders like a hugely obese person in need of rescue. Guest guest
I'm really sorry that someone went up to you and said that. I'm 163 and 5 ft tall and if someone said that to me I would be so upset. Trust me you look just fine. You don't need surgery just diet like all of us here. Prove to her that you can lose the weight and stick with south beach. you'll show her! i can't believe how rude people can be sometimes. > Hey everyone, I haven't posted much lately only because I've been > busy with work and home life. Guest guest
I agree with the thought that she is jealous that you are losing by eating properly and she was apparently unable to do that... that or my first thought that she found a less than reputable doctor that agreed to do her surgery when she wasn't 100 pounds overweight and is suggesting you do the same. I have a little trouble believing you look remotely close to 100 pounds overweight. My friend is 4'11 and in the 180s and she does NOT look that overweight. It seems like people will try to sabotage you one way or another. I have to say, I am totally surprised that someone who had struggled with her weight herself would be tempted to even approach that with you. That seems to be one step beyond caring. Guest guest
I would feel sorry for the person that suggested this too you.. She simply did not have the willpower to change her eating habits and felt the need to resort to surgery which carries with it the element of risk... I have known people that have had this surgery and although they did lose a lot of weight.. I also watched it slowly return... through the following years.. One person I know almost lost her life when after she lost the weight she went in to hospital to get the excess skin removed.. Apparently she did not get the injections 3 times a week that would have helped her not to have to undergo a second surgery to remove skin.. She ended up getting a serious infection and almost died.. Perhaps you boss was trying to be helpful to you in her mind... But rest assured you are doing it the right way.. I congratulate you on your weight loss... and the way you are doing it... You are way ahead of her since she will most likely regain her weight over time while you continue to travel down the scale.. You really do not have that much weight to go... It does show people what you are made of... I tend to call myself nowadays small but mighty!!! And built for industrial strength.. Just hanging out at the beach and sunning myself...http://www3.sympatico.ca/kdworkin/dishing.jpg __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I use to work with the mrdd population and I am sure the instructor taught the definition of obese as anyone who is 30 pounds or more over weight. I believe they got their info from a health book, but I am not sure. I also know a lady who had the operation who to me just looked heavy.....she became thin very fast, but said that it was horrible...she was constantly sick and would not recommend anyone to get that operation, she could barely eat. The thing is with the operation they can not change your brain and if we do not change our way of thinking then the weight will probably be put back on. My very dear friend who had the operation....put it all back on, she did it when they went in and stapled the stomach. She can not keep anything down except for sweets. She is constantly spitting up (I don't know what) into a cup from her stomach woes. SBD is DEFINITELY the way to go. Safe and Healthy. Guest guest
Let's face it : Some people are JERKS!!!!!!!! Could it be this person is jealous because you're taking off the weight the HARD way - through diet and exercise? I'd look at myself and see the 17 lbs. you've lost and give yourself a big pat on the back. I'm having trouble losing just 10 pounds - 17 lbs lost is GREAT!!!!!!!! I'm giving you pats and hugs for a job well done. Hugs, Diane S.
