I had SU, so can't really help you with this kind of surgery. However, I'm also prone to bladder infections. I think that catheters can cause bladder infections, but you could ask your doctor to put you on antibiotics to prevent that. Or you can drink LOTS of cranberry juice. Always works for me. It changes the pH of your urine and makes it harder for bacteria to grow. Drink a glass or so every day, more before and after the surgery. That should help! Guest guest
Hi, I wish I could help you. I am actually having this surgery in late January also for the same reasons you are. I am very new at this and have learned quite a bit in the little time knowing my condition. My doctor did tell me however that I would be out for about a week from work. I'm having laproscopic surgery at the same time...and from what I've heard that in itself may have some added pain. My doctor also told me that it would be 6 weeks before we could have sex to insure proper healing and no infection. I do understand the pressures of school and work. I was there not to long ago myself. The whole reason I am waiting until January is to put all the holiday hecticness behind me. I do know what its like not to want to have sex because of the septum. I am very lucky to have such an understanding husband. It's just comforting to know that I am not the only one out there who feels this way. If the doctor is too busy to return your call, I would ask to talk to his personal nurse. Rescheduling may be what you want to do. I really hope this helps. Stay in touch and I hope things go well for you as well.
Guest guest
Hi Gee you have a lot on your plate; any wonder you are on Xanax. I had a v septum removed when I was 16 years old. Please believe me when I say it was nothing!! I was anaesthetised then when I awoke I had no pain whatsoever. I don't recall even having had a catheter inserted so the risk of bladder infection should be nil. I was only in hospital for two days. I wasn't sick afterwards. It was the best thing I did; I couldn't even have sex prior to having the operation (mind you I wasn't intending on having sex at 16 either!!). IVP is no big deal either; I had one too as it turns out I have a double kidney on my right side. Basically you have an injection of a dye substance and then lie down while they xray you. Please don't worry, it is best they do it so they can find out if you have any kidney problems. Wishing you all the very best tte 37 BU Bicollis (v septum removed 1982) Vaginal Septum I need some help, I am having a vaginal septum removed Dect 16th, I was diagnosed with a didelpyhs uterus a couple of weeks ago. I am only having the vaginal septum removed in Dec. to help with pain during sex. I am terrified. My md doing the surgery is very difficult to get in touch with however research I have done says she is the best. I have a lot of questions and can not seem to get any answers. I have to go have this IVP done also. I don't what to expect with the surgery. Will I be sick afterward from the ansthesia? I am also very prone to bladder infections will the cathader cause those? I am going away for the Christmas Holidays, out of state, and scared that I will have problems during that time. I don't know what to do and I am to the point where I may scratch the whole thing however I am tired of feeling guilty when I don't want to have sex with my husband due to the pain. My family md put me on Xanax because I have been unable to deal with all of this. I am also a graduate student, final exams, papers are due, presentations must be done and working a 35 hour intership with no pay. I am just very overwhelmed and need some encouragement. Guest guest
Hi, I'm having my vaginal septum removed on Dec. 18 - I know what you mean about feeling overwhelmed. I'm also in graduate school finishing my Ph.D and getting ready for my comprehensive exams in January - How am I doing all this with finals coming up in two weeks, the holidays, and studying? I'm not sure yet, but if past performance predicts future performance...I'll come through somehow! I'm sure you will do the same. I had the IVP done - it really was no big deal. They will inject a contrast dye and take x rays of your urinary system. No pain at all and no discomfort. I was fortunate to have a normal result. I don't have any pain during intercourse with my husband but I noticed that most of the women that have a vaginal septum do - my doctor seemed surprise that we never felt it. I too have a uterus didelphys and was diagnosed this summer. During my vaginal septum removal I'm also having laporascopy, hysteroscopy, and D & C on each uterus. I have dysfunctional uterine bleeding and the doctor feel s this might help. If you have time before your surgery, take a couple of days and relax with your husband. We just got back from a week long cruise where we pampered ourselves with several spa treatments. I really needed it because all of the stresses were really getting to me. Keep in touch - let me know how you are doing. I wish you the best. Guest guest
I had my vaginal septum removed in July togther with a lap and uterine septoplasty (I was septate, bicollis). The vaginal septum removal was a breeze. I never even noticed it (though I had a lot of swelling and discomfort from the lap. Even with that, I had the surgery on Friday and was back at work by Wed. afternoon. DH and I went back to sex about 5 weeks later, and took it very slow the first couple of times - not because I hurt, but because I was afraid that I might. Be aware that several of us have experienced suprise at the non-smooth initial result. The walls do smooth out some over time after the healing period. - E. 29, SU bicollis, resected 7/25/03 TTC #1, 1st 2WW - testing 7/6/03 :-)
