Dea Friends,

It figures, when I am in a crisis the yahoo server is down!!! Kind of

humorous considering I was wanting to e-mail ANYONE who was awake at this

hour and on-line who would be willing to talk me out of taking my pain pills

and ending it...

I have not been posting lately because I became over confident since having

Dr. Lehman do a stint and sphrincteronomy in July. I thought I was CURED!!!

Well, I got pancreatitis last Monday and spent the week in the hospital on

morphine, demerol, and vesteral, and ativan. Now I am home, and have been

awake for nearly 24 hours enduring the withdrawals.

I just don't want to go throught them again...

I could use all the support you can give me.

Hi,

I may not be doing this right, since I have not posted in a while. Can

anyone tell me why drs. say that a person can not be addicted to drugs if

they " really need them " ? Then why do everytime I get home from the hospital

- three and four times a year, I go through at least a week of withdrawal

symptoms.

Cecelia,

I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier, but I offline for a few days myself

with exhaustion and then visiting my grandma out of town.

I know it's so hard to deal with this again when you thought you had it

licked. I did that about every year for about five or six years. The

depression afterward is hard to deal with.

All I can say, is take it one day at a time. If the depression lasts for

any length of time, get the doctor to prescribe an antidepressant. They

really do work and help keep you balanced and able to deal with live,

even if it isn't a great one. I've been on one for ten years and it's

helped so much, I didn't realize how much until this year.

When I get really frustrated and depressed, I turn on the music and play

sad songs and sing it out with them. Kinda cathartic. Anyways, maybe it

will distract from the withdrawals.

Cecelia,

you go through withdrawal because the idiot doctor didn't give you

anything to taper off of. Even if you aren't addicted to them, you still

need to go off those medications slowly. My doctors don't generally

release me until I'm fully off the pain meds and they taper them off,

not just cold turkey. Idiots.

They say you can't get addicted to them if you " need them " because the

pain does burn them off, but you can become dependent on them which is

different then addiction. Addiction is when you take them for the

" high " , the escape from reality, etc. There is no pain to " burn " them

out of your system.

,

same here. It works though. I guess it's a cathartic release maybe? I

don't know, but it does help. my friends all look at me funny when I say

that i do that to get over feeling sad and depressed. Now I know I'm not

alone. :)
