Guest guest
My mom was on Atkins a long time ago and she lost a lot of weight and she said everything is very similar to south beach the only difference was the portion sizes. I don't see anything about phase 2 that includes rice. I don't like rice though so it doesn't matter lol. I've added up the carbs from phase 1 and phase 2 and they are significantly lower than we are supposed to have. People are supposed to have 130 grams of carbs per day. Obviously we are significantly lower on both phases. Ketosis...that doesn't sound like a healthy word. I was just curious about it all because it really seems low carb. > Low carb diets, at least at the outset, seek to actually reduce daily > carbohydrate intakes to well below normal levels. FWIW, it's kinda tough to really add up the carbs without knowing portions. The powers that be are real good at tossing out numbers for what we need as minimums, however, there are millions of people (if not billions) who do not adhere to those numbers and they manage to survive just fine. There are days I get less than 100g of carbs and there are days I get 200g or more. It just depends on what I'm eating. The object is to get balanced nutrition and eat enough to satisfy your body's needs -- that doesn't necessarily equate to some magic number though. We're all a little different in our eating habits and needs. You just need to find the " sweet spot " (pardon the pun) for you.
Guest guest
I have to agree with . I get so discouraged when I step on that scale. I will only do it once a week if then. Not having weight drop off like an avalanche is not! I advise all of us who are worried about "blowing it" or not losing fast enough to follow my daughter's approach. A few days ago she stepped on the scale and it read 275 lbs (she's maybe 130). She thought it needed new batteries so she replaced them. Then it said she weighed 310. So she stepped off thinking it needed to reset itself. She got on again and it said 475. She then picked it up, took it to the garage and beat the hell out of it with her son's baseball bat. Her neighbor saw what was happening and came to ask if everything was alright. She simply replied 'I had to kill my scale - it lied to me' That is the attitude to follow. , take your scale to the garage and beat the hell out of it. If your clothes feel looser, you are winning. If your feet or legs are not as tired at the end of the day, you are winning. If you simply feel better after a week or so, you are winning. That is what this is all about. Guest guest
I was on Atkins and really low carb for months. I lost weight, and never felt better. All my blood work was excellent. I think people are all different and some people need Atkins cuz they are so carb sensitive. I think people do forget to add carbs back in slowly, just like we do in phase two. Guest guest
Also make sure you are eating enough. If you let your body get too low in calories, your body will think it is starving and it will hold onto every fat cell and won't let them go (starvation mode). You shouldn't ever go below 1200 calories. Carol Re: CHF & Weight Gain 2nd Phase I always have the portion size labeled either on the package or what's in the book and figure it out that way. Guest guest
I agree with this. Hardly anyone loses like that. I've been on plan for a year and a half and I plateaued for 6 months, and I've lost 74 pounds. Sometimes I can lose 4 -5 pounds but lots of times I don't lose any and I exercise quite a bit. But to each their own. Carol Re: CHF & Weight Gain 2nd Phase I think you're giving false hope, . Guest guest
I've come too far to give up. I refuse. And even if I never lose another pound I am SO MUCH more healthy, have a lot of energy and stamina, can do exercise videos I never thought I could before, and I know if I never lose another pound (and I will cuz I'm not giving up) I cannot gain back what I have already lost. I've worked too hard to get this far. At first it came off pretty fast, then slowed down a LOT, then after I had lost 50 pounds, it all stopped for 6 months, up and down the same five pounds, I was ready to cut off a limb just to see the scale say something else. Then I started to learn a little more about food balance and portion size through but still eat only South Beach foods. I believe in them. My doctor told me to stay at around 1200-1300 calories. I work at home so anything more than that is too much for my metabolism, or lack of. I also write to sometimes and that helps keep me motivated, cuz he writes back with very encouraging mail. It has taken a lot of time to figure out what is good for my body. I am REALLY good at maintaining I have to say. I did learn that well. We have to learn what is right for our own bodies. It's really hard cuz our bodies dont just speak out and tell us what they want. We have to find out for ourselves by trial and error. Think of phase II as a science experiment. I think the longer it takes us the longer we will be able to keep it off. I think the emphasis should also be about health first. I am doing this under my doctor's care. She helps me when I get stuck or frustrated. She encourages me and tells me what else I can try. I highly recommend seeking your doctor's permission and letting them know exactly what you are doing. Mine knows what I eat, what kind of exercise I do, what vitamins I take and anything else having to do with my health. For those that need encouragement, this is what wrote me yesterday after I updated him on how I am doing. Dear Sweet Carol:It was so good to hear from you. Wow 74 pounds down. How fantastic is that? Don't worry you will break your plateau. And how will you break it not by eating less but by eating more. So you just keep moving and grooving and keep focusing on your goals. Wow you write children's book how fantastic is that? I know the kids will love what you have to say and I hope it is a big success. I am glad I have been there to motivate you. I have to tell you how proud I am that you are going the distance. Before you know it you will be under 200 pounds. Well, please keep doing what you are doing. Keep in touch and good luck writing your second book.Love This kind of stuff really keeps me motivated to keep on going. Remember to take care of your health first! No one cares what size you are if you are lying in a coffin. Carol Re: CHF & Weight Gain 2nd Phase Wow that's amazing that you lost that much weight. Congratulations! Guest guest
Hi Carol... You do realize most people would have given up after a month or two of hitting a plateau? One of the main reasons most people give up on a diet unfortunately.. However Consider yourself a rare person that hung in there until such time as you discovered that you needed to count your calories to succeed with any further weight loss.. and you did a combination of things that proved to be very beneficial to you.. There are people on SB that also unfortunately put weight back on.. It is not because they lost at the rate of 5 pounds per week but rather because they returned to their old way of eating.. --- r_katman1 wrote: > > > > Losing weight is not going to be easy, it never > is. Guest guest
I'll increase it when I get used to 10 minutes first because that about killed me. Then I'll increase by 5 minutes. Or I might even just tighten everything up and try that for 10 minutes. Not sure yet. Guest guest
Hi ... Okay stick with what you are doing then for awhile and do not increase it all.. until you are very comfortable with the 10 minutes... You may find you need a massage as well if your muscles get sore so do things very slowly at first.. Guest guest
Carol, Heh, well I ran in a snow storm (once). It's not as dumb as it seems. It wasn't snowing when I started out. And the snow was light and drifting so my footing was stable. So I wasn't going to stop. I guess I'm just very stubborn :-) And I guess I'm lucky--my neighborhood is safe. But my point about mentioning walking was that there are lots of ways to exercise--walking, running, biking, workout tapes, gardening, etc. Whatever works for you (generic you). I think it's important to exercise on a regular schedule because you'll see improvement from on workout to the next, but some people are more able than others (and likely most of us should check with our doctors before embarking on a new exercise program). I haven't reached my fitness goals yet, but I'm working on it. Bob > Thank you. Admittedly, I don't walk outside much cuz I can't stand my neighbors. They watch me and then have to ask me questions like who was over and things. They used to bring me my mail every day. Handing it to me, " And you got the gas bill, a check, junk mail, and I don't know what this is. " GRRRRRR Til I had a cow, then they stopped. I sometimes go up to the park and walk the track, or the beach and walk back and forth. I also like to go shoot baskets or play baseball with the kids or frizbee. But it is only just getting warm here. 55 degrees today. Snowed 12 inches or something this weekend. So for the most part, I exercise inside to a lot of videos. And I get so bored just walking. I know that sounds bad. Just seems like every minute goes by like 2 hours. lol I'm so strange. Carol
