Subject: [ ] anesthesia for dental work

Had my son at the dentist today. They were wonderful and so patient bur he

still was a mess. They need to do fillings and said oral sedation will not

work for him. They want to do IV sedation with an anesthesiologist. I spoke

with him after I got back and he works with kids with autism frequently. He

said he would use either Propofol (sp?) or Versed (sp?). Does anyone have

any experience or info on either of these? My info I had saved was on y

laptop that crashed.

Thanks so much!

Propofol has soy in it, so If he is sensitive to soy that could be an issue.

Our anesthesiologist didn¹t know that and my son was really off for a few

weeks after his anesthesia. You can look up ingredients of each on the web

and I think you should if your child has allergies/sensitivities to certain

things. Don¹t take his word for it. I did, and it ended up messing my

child up for awhile.

HI ,

My son needed to go under in Dec also for dental work. They did an injection of

Versed (low dose) and propofol. I asked for no lactated ringers in the IV so he

used sodium chloride in the IV.

The IM versed worked well to get him into the room, although my son still

remembered. He reacts paradoxically to oral versed (goes hyper) so go figure.

HOpe that helps.

Good luck,

Anissa

We did versed in November for filings and saw no adverse effects (and yes, the

kids don't remember anything afterwards)
